“Dear PoPville,

As I walked up R St NW over the weekend I came across this unusual sight in front of the Embassy of Georgia. Thoughts please?”

“Dear PoPville,

Has anyone else ever noticed little piles of powder seemingly strategically placed along sidewalks around DC? I’ve lived here for less than two years but I see these piles all over town, in Southwest, Navy Yard, Downtown, and today in NoMa along L St and 2nd St NE. They are sometimes different colors, but always dropped in neat little piles all along sidewalks and buildings. What’s the deal?

A woman who saw me taking pictures told me she saw a man dropping the powder yesterday and thought it was for some kind of scavenger hunt?”

“Dear PoPville,

Neighbors saw him in front of a residence that is a airbnb in the area that is known for hosting unusual events. They remember seeing this in front of the house when they also saw people dressed up. Its still there!! We don’t know what to do with it and trying to confirm where it came from. Maybe someone else in the neighborhood can clarify this mystery. Thank you!”

A reader in this morning’s rant/revel writes:

“?: I saw something that looked like snow out of the window of my office building. My coworkers and i were shocked. Snow in May? I doubt it. I think something exploded and sent white debris to the grown but it looks crazy in any case.”

What the – thanks to Shelley for sending:

“seems as if multiple washing machines exploded on a rooftop in Chinatown this morning. Soapsuds/snowflakes are flying around everywhere. Any idea what’s going on?” (more…)

From an email:

“We are a local Morris dance team who have been performing in the DC area since 1977. Every year we and the Rock Creek Morris Women join with thousands of people all over the world who perform Morris Dancing at dawn on May First. We are also joined by Sligo Creek Sword, who won the North American Rapper Dance competition last year. This year we will dance at dawn (starting at 6:00 am) at the Takoma Park Gazebo and in NoMa and at Union Market later in the day. (more…)

I’ve seen a lot of weird stuff over the years and this might have just skyrocketed to the top. What the hell?

“Dear PoPville,

I saw this magazine tied in front of the Suntrust Bank on Columbia and 18th NW yesterday. The magazine cover talked about 100 top women in business I think, and it’s in a rope knot. It’s not a noose knot, but still a weird knot. And it’s with real rope. Someone had to go through some effort. Those poles aren’t short.

I honestly can’t tell if this is problematic but thought I’d let you guys decide.”

But seriously, this sounds bonkers all around.

Brendan reports:

“At around 1pm today, the manager of the Chopt in Union Station assaulted a customer upset that he’d been waiting half an hour for a salad he’d called ahead for that they were late to make. The Manager tried to take his phone, made a mess, and wrestled w/the Customer. The customer was allowed to leave after police were called. The Manager was taken away in Handcuffs.

It was insane. All the guy did was get upset that his salad was late, and say he was gonna write a bad review. Both of which he’s entitled to do. The Manager went nuts on him.”
