First reported by Jon around 10:15pm last night: “extremely loud explosion heard in Capitol Hill just now.”

Confirmed by many, many others from all parts of Capitol Hill and beyond.

After much speculation readers reported: “Fire trucks responding at Walter/C/13th SE. Unclear what it was but that’s the epicenter. They’re looking around for the cause. Air still smoky.” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Tonight was the second time in the last 2-3 weeks that I’ve noticed a napkin tied around around my car’s passenger side door handle while it was street parked in West End on 26th St NW. The first time I noticed it I removed it immediately, but then I noticed a new one again tonight, tied to the same door handle. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I was wondering if any readers have some information about the “house” on the hill above the Dalecarlia Reservoir/Washington Aqueduct. It’s tucked behind Sibley hospital all by itself on a steep hill overlooking MacArthur Blvd and the reservoir. While built to resemble a home, I’m guessing it’s purpose had to do with the reservoir. Amanda sends this crazy photo from last night: “Wondering why the helicopters were flying over 395?”

Dave Statter reported yesterday: “Today’s I-395 drama is in the express lanes. Pursuit by @DCPoliceDept & others through Arlington, Alexandria & into Fairfax near Edsall. Vehicle reported to have been carjacked.”

Alan Henney reported: “update: Auto believed to be the one carjacked from Mont Co yesterday. All suspects in custody in the area of Edsall Rd.”

Side note: I was looking on AlertDC for some answers, which I didn’t realize was an “Unofficial feed of (mostly) DC Alert system” and before I spotted the “unofficial” part was marveling over this pinned tweet: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

My entire apartment shook last night with a really loud BOOM at 3 am. Woke me up scared out of my mind. I know this happened earlier in the year too. I live right by Cardozo. Anyone else feel it?”

It had been 28 days since our last report of loud booms. Anyone else hear it last night?

Around 10:30pm in Columbia Heights was definitely fireworks.

And another round later: “Special thanks to the person who just blasted fireworks directly next to my bedroom window at 2am in Columbia Heights”

And in a new one that I’ll add to the list of options comes this report from Alan Henney at 2:20am:

“The EXPLOSIONS heard about 20 minutes ago in University Heights are tires bursting on a carjacked SUV that was just torched at 7th St and Randolph St NE-DC.”

“Dear PoPville,

So this thing showed up on the side of our house in Eckington recently. Know what it is? We did not put it there so thinking it was something that the city did. Saw one of the street on someone’s fence as well.” (more…)
