“U.S. Army photos by Sgt. Gabriel Silva”

About all that cannon practice we’ve been hearing every Tuesday. Here’s some great photos from the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard):

“Soldiers of the Presidential Salute Battery, 1st Battalion, 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) conducted blank fire crew drills as part of their routine training on Joint Base Myer – Henderson Hall. (more…)

Last night around 1am a few folks started asking “Am I the only one who had their entire building shake like an earthquake? (13th and Clifton)”

“I live here too. Yea, it kinda scared me and my gf. Whole building shook.”

Daniel replies: “Huge tree fell in the Clifton Terrace/Wardman courtyard. Assume that was what you heard/felt.”

Meghan and Allison let’s us know: “Heard a lot of big booms this morning…is it cannon practice day at Arlington National Cemetery?”

“Yes, @PoPville, we know. Cannons, Arlington, practice, etc.”

And last night readers reported starting around 9:45pm: “FYI, there was just an explosion somewhere around Delafield and Georgia. No idea what it was, but I heard/felt it at 13th and Delafield”

“Wtf is happening in Petworth/16th St Heights??? Copters, sirens, loud bang.”

“Dear PoPville,

Do you have any idea what these floating chandeliers are? One popped in the alley behind or building in Adams Morgan (same alley with Ratzilla). I have seen them around before, but was wondering if they are some art installation?”

Ed. Note: From time to time chandeliers appear randomly floating around town.

“Dear PoPville,

Spotted in Palisades, overlooking the Capital Crescent Trail and Canal Road. Thought it was a birdhouse at first, but on closer inspection it doesn’t seem to be. It has a CIA sticker on it, but given that it also has DC flag and Biden Harris stickers, I’m guessing it’s not spy-related. (OR IS IT?)”

Ed. Note: I’m 97% sure this is a bat house. Update: 47% sure.

Erin asks:

“Someone put “Thank you Lisa” signs all over Garfield Park a month or so ago. Anyone in your readership have any background on this appreciative mystery?”

Ed. Note: While we wait for answer allow me to take this opportunity: (more…)

From Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall (a Joint Base of the United States military that is located around Arlington, Virginia which is made up of Fort Myer, Fort McNair, and Henderson Hall):

“As a reminder, the Presidential Salute Battery of The Old Guard, has begun their weekly blank-fire crew drills of their cannon salutes in Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday mornings from 7 to 8 a.m. Training is required for the platoon to maintain proficiency and readiness.”

Thanks to Victoria for the reminder to prep a new volume of ‘Was that a Cannon you heard around 7am on a Tuesday Morning?’
