“Dear PoPville,
saw this hybrid Toyota SUV up on these on our walk this morning – from a distance I thought it was just a bad wheel upgrade – on Newton near Brown in MtP. All 4 wheels. I’m strongly assuming wheel theft but the upgrade from plastic crates is interesting.”
“Guni wheels are used for moving a car around a body shop or garage. not driving on roads. (more…)

Tom asks us: “do you know about the “game of frogs” statues around DC?”
Games of Frogs Instagram says:
“There are 150+ concrete frogs placed around Washington DC. Find them, tag them #gameoffrogs, spread the word.”

Adam asked: “Does anyone know what this one single brick built into an underpass on 295 at Bennington Road is all about? What is DC 104?”
We’ve seen a similar one from the south end of Barracks Row and from the Underpass at RFK. At one time Mr.TinMD told us that:
“The upper logo, with the Capitol dome, is a remnant from the B&O railroad. I think they denote B&ORR bridges or something.”
If you have a photo of a neat find from your house, place of work or neighborhood please send an email to [email protected] thanks. Please let me know where/what neighborhood you found it in too. Thanks.

Update/reminder from WMATA:
“Due to the U.S. – Africa Leaders Summit, a National Special Security Event (NSSE), Metro’s Mt Vernon Sq Station will be closed at the request of U.S. Secret Service over four days beginning at 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 12 through the close of service on Thursday, Dec. 15.
The station closure is necessary due to its location within the security perimeter. Green Line trains will pass through Mt Vernon Sq Station without stopping, with normal service to all other stations. Rail service to the station is expected to resume with the start of service on Friday, December 16..
Due to vehicle restrictions within the security perimeter that spans a large area around the Washington Convention Center, shuttle buses to/from Mt Vernon Sq will not be provided. Customers are encouraged to use the Gallery Place-Chinatown or Shaw-Howard U stations, or in some cases Metrobus may be an alternative.”

Over the weekend lots of folks were asking: “any clue what’s the mission behind the blockades in the Mt Vernon Sq area?”
Last week we noted that there would be Road Closures/No Parking around Mount Vernon Square through Saturday, December 17 for the the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
It stopped me in my tracks & made me wonder what day it was and if Christmas had already come & gone.”

Updated with another angle from Jenny Wing Harper:

“Dear PoPville,
Curious if anyone in the community knows what’s happening with the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge? These peel patterns – almost graffiti looking – have started to emerge. Was this planned or ? It’s appearing all over the bridge now” (more…)
