Update from the Library of Congress Communications Officer:
“We messed up. We replaced the tree topper yesterday and we hope people can join us for the official tree lighting later this afternoon at 4pm.”

“Our intention with the new tree topper was to celebrate liberty and freedom by highlighting the “Liberty Cap” that is featured around the Library’s Great Hall. Obviously, the execution left something to be desired. The topper has been replaced with a festive floral arrangement. We hope DMV residents can visit the Library and celebrate the holiday season with us this year and enjoy it!”

“Dear PoPville,
The LOCs Christmas tree is a site to see!
It’s was supposed to be a Liberty Cap hat apparently? What a terrible plan to start with but the contractor got it wrong and put up a Liberty Cap mushroom… as in the hallucinogenic magic mushroom, hence all the sticks and leaves around it.
There is now a frantic effort to get it down.”

“Dear PoPville,
Spotted on Ontario Road between Kalorama Road and Florida Ave. Is this a water heater waiting for installation in a multi-unit building? I guess I’ve just never seen one…”

Thanks to Sara for sending:
“Ducks spotted near 21st and Pennsylvania. Is this normal? Had to chase them out of the street into the park before cars came!”
If you spot a hawk, any interesting wildlife or celebrity skateboarder Tony Hawk, and get a good photo please send in an email where you spotted them to [email protected]. Thanks! Hawks around Town is made possible by a generous grant from the Ben and Sylvia Gardner foundation.

“Dear PoPville,
Well, USPS has opened the newly located post office in Dupont on Conn Ave, BUT it’s still called “Temple Heights,” just like at its former location, which isn’t an actual neighborhood in DC. Google that and you’ll see your own article. Why it’s not called Dupont Circle is laughable. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Trigger warning, dead animal. No blood. Dog sniffed it out while walking behind the new soccer field at UDC. No idea what it is. Maybe a coyote?” (more…)

For months, I have seen fresh, new jackets bolted to the sidewalk on top of a mound of dirt on the corner of 16th & L. After a day or two, the jackets are removed and the compounded dirt is replaced? (more…)
