Can you see the little mirror thing above the door? I think it is to ward away the evil spirit, right? Anyone know from what country it comes from? It’s from a house being renovated in Mt. Vernon Square.

Well a quick google search hooked me up. Their Web site says:
“The City Tavern Club is a private social club located in the heart of Georgetown, 3206 M Street, NW, Washington, DC. The Club provides fine dining, elegantly appointed rooms for entertaining, popular member events and a diverse membership. City Tavern is also a top venue for private parties and meetings throughout the year. The historic Federal-Style clubhouse, acquired by Club founders in 1959, is one of oldest buildings in the nation’s capital, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Our membership is comprised of Washington professionals from all fields, including government, law, medicine, architecture, consulting and many others. The Indian King Society, or IKS, is chaired by younger members and organizes a variety of fun events. The Club maintains reciprocal relationships with over 100 clubs worldwide.”
You can read more history here. So how do I get invited to be a member…?
And while we’re on the topic, I’m just curious – what’s the most “exclusive” private club in DC?

Why would four identical vines of similar length change colors at different times? You can the one on the left is deep red, the one in the middle is yellow, and on the right is green. I also noticed a tree that had half yellow leaves and half green on the same tree. I haven’t stumped you guys yet – so can anyone explain this to me?

I actually know the answer to this one. But the first person who guesses correctly (with the exact location) wins a free PoP t-shirt. (Ed. Note: New edition of the shirts, including coolest pet winners, were shipped today.)

The reader writes:
“Just saw four guys on horses going down Columbia road, near Ontario. One of them trotted on the sidewalk and the horse left a nice pile of manure behind.”
Who are these people? Isn’t there some horse show going on at the Verizon Center? Totally bizarre sighting for Columbia Road…

This was in the front yard of home in Capitol Hill. Do you think it is a memorial/initials of someone who once lived in the home? It reminds me a bit of the tree box memorial in Mt. Pleasant.

Oh, it is Air Photos Live, a “Digital Design & Imaging Service”.
Not sure how many folks saw this balloon on 14th Street, NW across from the Black Cat last Sunday, but it was quite an unusual sight.
I’d love to see the photos of 14th Street that this balloon caught. You can see some amazing shots from other projects in their gallery here.

Thanks to a friend of mine for sending the photos and thanks to all for sending emails about its arrival in Adams Morgan. The Cube was unveiled Thursday at 8pm and will be on display through Saturday. Does anyone know if it is promoting a particular HBO show or just HBO in general?

Granted I have a pretty low threshold…

We’ve given a lot of attention to the boarded up buildings on 9th Street, NW in Shaw. However this past weekend I noticed another eyesore in an otherwise tony neighborhood – N Street, NW between 18th and 19th. Anyone know what the story is here? Have these buildings been boarded up for a long time? Anyone know who owns them? Development plans?
