Harrison writes: “Two people are reportedly trapped inside this small aircraft that has crashed into power lines near Goshen Road and Rothbury Drive in Montgomery Village near Gaithersburg. Rescue is still in progress over two hours after the plane crashed.”

Update from Pepco:

“Pepco is pleased to have successfully assisted Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services and other local emergency personnel with the effort to rescue the individuals who were stranded in the airplane in Montgomery County. As of 11:58 p.m., Pepco also has restored electric service for all customers impacted by incident. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

We purchased a home earlier this year with an old oil boiler that we planned to replace immediately. For a variety of reasons (the fact that the previous owner filled up the oil tank between inspection and closing, waiting for IRA energy efficiency rebates to become available next year, other priority house projects, etc.) we’ve decided to wait to make the upgrade.

We have two questions: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’m here to report the Power of PoPville!

My meter relocation issue was posted on Monday and on Tuesday, I received a call from someone in the construction department of Washington Gas. Apparently several people had forwarded him the posting and he was calling to help answer my questions and resolve the issue.

A PSA on responsibilities related to moving a meter: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’m hoping the hive mind can help me with this crazy estimate to move my gas meter.

As part of a renovation, I need to move my Washington Gas meter from inside the basement to outside (just on the other side of the wall). Washington Gas contracts with third party vendors to do the work. In this case it’s Miller Pipeline. I was floored when I received this estimate today of over $6,000 dollars. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Was wondering if anyone could help us out with this. Our exterior cable line needs to be replaced. It runs from our outside wall into the cable tap in the complex’s garage. Comcast won’t do it because we live in a condo and not an apartment complex. I’m having trouble finding a contractor that does exterior work of this kind.

Has anyone had this issue before or know anyone that can do this kind of work?”

“Dear PoPville,

Looking to improve the wifi connection in my house and feel like there’s got be a pool of DC residents who live in old rowhomes with thick walls and have found a good solution. Looking for recommendations for extenders. Thanks in advance!”

Side note: On twitter this morning we were asked: “Have others been experiencing especially inconsistent Xfinity service in DC over the last couple weeks? Seems to be dropping out once every couple hours on some days.”

“Dear PoPville,

I am writing to share an unfortunate experience currently plaguing several residents of the 1400 block of Florida Ave NW, which up until this week has been a work zone for the Northwest Boundary Sewer Rehabilitation Project. The project came with the headaches of a significant infrastructure improvement project in the middle of a busy city (lots of noise, loss of street parking for residents, major traffic snarls on what is already a major thoroughfare for regular traffic as well as emergency vehicles), but residents of the area had been able to tolerate the disruptions and coexist peacefully with the crew.

Until June 22. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

This morning PEPCO put up many temporary no parking signs on my block…. Only problem is the permit is for 3 spots on a different block, not a full street and not my block.

Do I still have to obey these?
