I just wanted to remind folks to be wary of people coming to their door asking for your Pepco account number. Last night I had someone from Inspire Energy come to my door trying to get me to switch to their green energy supplier. He told me that if I didn’t switch to a green energy source I would have two fees added to my Pepco bill, and this door-to-door visit was my “final notice.”
I asked if I could make the changes on the website, but he said that I would have to give him my account number so he could make the change. This is where I remembered stories I read of people who shared their account info and then had their bill shoot up because the new rates were much higher. It’s not technically a “scam”, but definitely a shady business practice. So if someone comes to your door telling you that you “need” to switch your energy supplier, be cautious!“
