DC Fire and EMS reported around 11pm: “Water search below S. Capitol St Bridge. Witnesses report seeing vehicle go into water. Track marks located leading to water. Search by land, water & air in progress utilizing Fireboats, @uscoastguard, @DCPoliceDept harbor & @usparkpolicepio Eagle helicopter.”

According to witnesses on the scene. Around midnight. A car traveling in westbound lanes of RI Ave, jumped the curb full speed into circle, plowed thru a row of benches and iron fences, leaving a debris field, before hitting that tree, scraping off bark, and spinning around to face 180 degrees. “Metro will add automated cameras to buses to keep unauthorized vehicles out of bus-only lanes and bus stop zones under an agreement with the District of Columbia and recommended for approval by the Metro Board of Directors Finance Committee today. The new initiative, called Clear Lanes, is modeled after similar programs, including San Francisco and New York City, and will be the first to use automated camera technology to enforce bus stop zones in addition to bus-only lanes.
