Fifth Annual Running of the Streetcar

From the H Street Runners:

“Make 2023 the year you leave the streetcar in your dust. To celebrate (almost to the day) the 7 year anniversary of the H Street Corridor Streetcar, come join us for our 5th annual “Running of the Streetcar” !!!

Think you’re faster than the streetcar? We bet you are, but come find out for sure on Sunday, April 30. Just think of the famed Running of the Bulls at Pamplona, except for this event your goal is to outpace a big, red mechanical beast — H Street’s infamous streetcar!

Date: April 30th
Time: 2:00 pm
Location: Wunder Garten

Check-in will be from 2-2:30pm at Wunder Garten. We will be grabbing the streetcar at 2:45pm down to the end of the line the intersection of Benning Road and Oklahoma Ave NE (near RFK stadium), where we will exit the streetcar, cross the street, and get set to race the streetcar all the way to 3rd and H (last stop before the Hopscotch Bridge/Union Station) for a start ~ 3 pm (pending street car traffic). The sidewalks are not being closed for this event, so all runners are required to follow traffic laws and be aware of/ polite to pedestrians on H St.

The streetcar ride to the start will allow everyone to preview the course ahead of time and receive some pointers from runners who participated in the event in the past. The distance from the Oklahoma Avenue stop all the way back to 3rd and H is 1.92 miles.

WE WELCOME SPECTATORS FOR THIS EVENT, and so feel free to invite friends and family to join us at the start to ride the car to the end or cheer on at the finish at 3rd and H! As passengers on board the streetcar, they’ll have a unique platform from which to observe the runners in their efforts to outpace the red Goliath. It won’t be a walk in the park!

For the event, we are asking for a $5 (or any amount) suggested donation to help H Street Runners host future motivation stations for upcoming DC races. Any amount will help and will go straight into supplies that will fuel all runners in future races!

We will also be having another collection for Medals for Mettle! Please consider bringing a race medal or two as a donation to Medals for Mettle, a nonprofit founded by marathoners, which gives race medals to honor and uplift folks – especially children struggling with serious illness or disease. To learn more about Medals for Mettle, check out their website — https://medals4mettle.org/. Medals from all races (any distance) will be accepted and will be presented to very deserving people who will really love them. Consider donating a race medal – or as many of you can!

After the race, all are welcome to join us for a special celebration at Wunder Garten. This event will happen rain or shine.”

For many remote workers, a messy home is distracting.

You’re getting pulled into meetings, and your unread emails keep ticking up. But you can’t focus because pet hair tumbleweeds keep floating across the floor, your desk has a fine layer of dust and you keep your video off in meetings so no one sees the chaos behind you.

It’s no secret a dirty home is distracting and even adds stress to your life. And who has the energy to clean after work? That’s why it’s smart to enlist the help of professionals, like Well-Paid Maids.
