“Dear PoPville,

I have an issue if you don’t mind another story about WMATA’s nickle and dimming it’s most loyal customers and an absurd policy that should be changed.

As you know WMATA offers a transfer saving of $0.50 from bus to metro. It also offers an option for a metro pass for monthly riders. But if you do get a pass, you loose the transfer reduction. Why? no one at WMATA knows. and its not clearly communicated on the page where you would buy a pass, so many people may not even know they are getting short changed. Sure it seems small, but for someone who is trying to save $10 a month, pinching pennys to save for college perhaps, it’s just cruel to be squeezed by the public transit system of your city!

How dose this actually affect people… (more…)

From WMATA Tuesday night:

“Metro has temporarily removed from service 164 buses – representing approximately 10 percent of its fleet – following two incidents in which the engines cut off at low speed.

The most recent incident occurred today and was linked to a similar incident that occurred Thursday. In both incidents, the buses were traveling at less than 10 miles per hour when the engines cut off with no apparent warning.. Two minor injuries were reported as a result of the brakes engaging as designed. (more…)

After the Women’s March they got 970 cards!!

From Miriam’s Kitchen:

“Attending this Saturday’s March for Our Lives? Are you visiting Washington, D.C. from out of town? If you don’t want to keep your Metro SmartTrip card after your visit — don’t throw it away! Mail your card to Miriam’s Kitchen to help individuals experiencing homelessness. The cards cost $2 each (not including subway or bus fare) and can make a big difference for someone trying to get to a medical appointment, to a shelter, or to get a warm meal. It’s helpful to put a post-it note on the card indicating the fare balance.

Send directly to Miriam’s Kitchen:

From WMATA:

“Due to deteriorating weather conditions, Metro is announcing the following service changes, effective as of 10:30 a.m. Wednesday:

Metrobus service is transitioning to a Severe Snow Plan, which will further limit service to major roadways only. Due to current road conditions, buses are subject to significant delays systemwide, and customers should travel only if absolutely necessary. For details about the Severe Snow Plan, visit: https://www.wmata.com/rider-guide/weather/bus/severe.cfm

MetroAccess service is no longer accepting “outbound” trips due to current weather conditions. Service will continue to be provided only for customers who need to be transported back to their residences.

Metrorail continues to operate on a modified schedule. Trains are operating about every 12-15 minutes on each line. There are no issues to report on the rail system at this time.”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m writing as a PSA. Thursday night I left a club downtown and got into what I thought was my Uber. He had rolled down his window and asked “Uber?” I stated my name and he said “yes, get in.” I was headed somewhere in Virginia about 20 minutes away and didn’t realize he headed towards Maryland. Admittedly I had been drinking and I would have noticed I was going in the wrong direction had I been sober but was looking down at my phone and wasn’t paying attention. He said he needed to pull over to get gas which I immediately thought was strange so I looked up my location, saw I wasn’t in Virginia and bolted out of the car booking it 10 blocks or so until I saw a security guard parked outside an apartment building. We called the cops so I could file a report and thankfully made it home safely. I can’t remember what the car or the driver looked like so unfortunately he’ll get away with it. It could have ended a lot worse and I’m thankful I made it out okay but want to remind everyone, especially women at night, to check the license plate and ask your driver for your name.”
