“The Bowser Administration is currently monitoring first amendment activities planned by local climate change organizations for Monday, September 23, 2019. The groups have planned first-amendment protected events on Monday to potentially include the intentional disruption of traffic on high-volume roadways around the District. “Today, the Bowser Administration announced that the bus lane pilot on H and I Streets NW will become permanent effective November 12, 2019. Bus speeds and reliability were improved during the pilot program, and DDOT is continuing to make adjustments that will enhance the experiences of bus riders along the route.

“Under Mayor Bowser’s leadership, we are committed to improving bus travel for residents and commuters across all eight wards,” said the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) Director Jeff Marootian. “The H/I bus lanes will make the commutes of thousands of bus passengers traveling through downtown faster and more reliable every day.”

Preliminary data comparing June 2018 and June 2019 found improvements in bus speeds and reliability on I Street NW but not on H Street NW. DDOT will implement the following changes to remedy operational challenges identified during the pilot period: (more…)


Sidney shares a letter he wrote to WMATA:

“I am writing to you about a potential health problem at the Mt. Vernon Metro Station. Every afternoon between about 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm there is an abundance of bird (I assume pigeon) droppings all over the escalators. The disturbing thing is it’s all over the handrails and I see Metro riders putting their hands in it every single day. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Just wanted to report an incident of harassment at N and 8th St. NW (8:45pm Wed. night.) My husband and I were on scooters on our way home up 8th when three kids moved into the street and we had to come to a stop to avoid colliding with them. They threatened to take our scooters, and when we refused, one of them started kicking mine over and over. (more…)

“MTPD units responded to Georgia Ave-Petworth Station for a report of shots fired on the platform at 3:30pm. MTPD confirmed that one round was discharged by a male subject on the platform. No injuries. Police do have leads that are being pursued at this hour.”

Update from WMATA:

“At approximately 3:30 p.m. yesterday, MTPD units responded to Georgia Ave-Petworth Station for a report of shots fired on the platform. There were no witnesses, suspects or victims on scene. However, MTPD confirmed that one round was discharged by a male subject on the platform. No one was struck, and there were no injuries. Within the past hour (today), transit police detained a suspect in connection with this incident in the 3900-block of Georgia Ave NW. The investigation is ongoing.”
