8th and Rhode Island Ave, NW

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to pulse the Shaw and DC community on any improvement they’ve seen from the newly installed crosswalk lights at 8th and Rhode Island NW. Cars are still blowing through the crossing lane even when crosswalk alert lights are illuminated. Also, DC installed the press mechanism for the alert lights so far from the crosswalk for the lights, that the lights are rarely used. Emily sends Tuesday 5:21pm at Metro Center

The Washington Post reported it happened on the platform around 3:15 p.m. “A man was stabbed and critically injured Tuesday afternoon inside the Metro Center station”

Update from Metro Transit Police:

“The Metro Transit Police Department today arrested Antownne Turner, 51, of Northeast D.C., the sole suspect in a stabbing on the Red Line platform at Metro Center Station yesterday, August 23. Turner was taken into custody without incident on the 2200 block of I St. NW. (more…)

“Whether you choose the free shuttle buses or an alternative rail or bus route, Metro encourages customers to begin travel planning for major construction on the Blue and Yellow lines that will result in rail service changes this fall. Starting September 10, work will begin to fix the aging Yellow Line tunnel and bridge, and advance the critical improvements necessary to open the future Potomac Yard Station later in the fall.

During the first phase, between September 10 and October 22, six Blue and Yellow line stations south of Reagan National Airport Station will be closed (more…)
