Thanks to Tim for passing on “there is a lot going on in this tweet” from DC Fire and EMS:

“Technical rescue Union Station. Person suffering electrical injury after coming into contact with power while walking on roof of train car. Victim has been located beneath H St NE.”

Updates if/when more is learned.

Thanks to V. for sending from the U Street Metro: “…we decided that it might be electrified or something.”

I’m pretty sure an anvil would come smashing down on your head…

From the office of Councilmember Charles Allen:

“Today, DC Council Chairman Phil Mendelson and Councilmember Charles Allen (Ward 6) are holding a joint press conference to announce Councilmember Allen’s Metro For DC bill will include two major additions when it comes up for a vote next Tuesday, December 6.

The bill makes all WMATA buses operating in the District free to riders beginning next summer

In a major win for DC’s nightlife and service sector, the bill funds overnight service for 12 major bus lines.

The bill still establishes a $10 million bus service improvement fund dedicated to annual investments in bus lanes, shelters, and other improvements to make bus service itself faster, more reliable, and more enjoyable.

The bill still provides a $100 monthly subsidy for all DC residents to use on Metrorail, buses outside of DC, or anywhere else SmarTrip is accepted. This is similar to what was previously announced. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

PSA: The person who presents as a trans woman and takes pride in (and makes social media fodder) scamming people out of money is back and currently up (as of last week) in Cleveland Park. She approached me in the service lane on her scooter and when I said, “Oh I’ve met you before–keep moving.” (more…)

“National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, 2021. NPS / Nathan King”

Update from another reader:

“I asked NPS directly about the rest of the timing, and here’s what they sent back to me:

“We anticipate pre-show activities beginning around 5pm, and the main show itself about a half an hour later. The main show is anticipated to run approximately one hour or so.”

Update from NPS:

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will help celebrate the 2022 holiday season by lighting the National Christmas Tree at the 100th National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff will also attend the lighting. The ceremony takes place on the Ellipse in President’s Park on Nov. 30.

The lighting ceremony will also include remarks from Secretary of the Interior, Deb Haaland.”

“Dear PoPville,

I was wondering if anyone knows what the order of events is at the National Christmas Tree Lighting on Wednesday – their website is quite vague.

I got tickets in the lottery and it says to arrive between 2:30 and 4:30; (more…)

9th and Rhode Island Ave, NW Friday around 2:30pm

“Dear PoPville,

We were driving at 20-25 mph through Rhode Island coming from NE to NW DC. We had just started crossing 9th street NW after the signal had been green for a few seconds. Suddenly a white Dodge Charger, driving at what I estimate was >70 mph, skipped the red light on 9th street and hit our car on the left side. Thankfully the impact was mostly on the front and not the passenger side door, otherwise it would have been much worse. (more…)
