pocket park next to the Wells Fargo at Calvert St & 37th NW

A reader writes: “Reporting this accident from earlier today at 11:55am. A man was actually seated at the bench at the time, jumped about 10 ft in the air on impact, ran and then actually came back and helped the driver behind the wheel.

Police arrived on the scene, I believe the driver was taken away in a firetruck. Not clear if there were any serious injuries. MPD was on the scene and had blocked off the area while inspecting the damage to the benches and the historic call box when I walked past around 12:45pm. The tow truck arrived at 1:53pm to remove the vehicle.

*UPDATE from the neighbor who witnessed the entire accident. (more…)

Rhode Island and North Capitol St

A reader reported around 4:30pm yesterday:

“not sure what happened or how each car ended up where they did, but this intersection is notorious for traffic violence and poorly planned. Very glad no pedestrians appear to have been hurt, as it is also one of the only spots to cross North Capitol Street. The city is aware of the issues with accidents here but favors commuters over the communities that surround it.”
