Thanks to S. for sending: “ice on road but this guy must have been speeding like hell…” Other readers report a helicopter above and “It seems that the driver might have fled the scene, which is who they’re searching for.”

From AlertDC: “MPD reports the 500 block of Sheridan St NW is closed in both directions due to crash activity. Please use alternate routes.” (more…)

From DDOT:

“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced the planned deployment of automated traffic enforcement cameras to new locations throughout the District. The camera locations are traffic sites where data analysis has identified speeding and stop sign running as safety issues.

Once Photo Enforced signs are installed in the direction of travel within at least 100 to 150 feet of the approach of the location, a 30-day educational phase will start for each camera deployment. During this period, violators will receive warning citations. Sara writes: “On Friday night my catalytic converter was stolen from my Prius parked near 16 and U. I know this is a thing but wondering if it is happening to others in the area? Are people protecting their converters? Thanks!”

Unfortunately we got a report about this happening in February and again in September. One reader suggests anyone with a Prius “go buy a shield right now.”

“Dear PoPville,

Question about car crahses in DC. Apparently the DC cops don’t come to fender benders or other accidents unless someone needs medical attention and an ambulance needs to be called.

I was not at fault and it took 4 months for the other party to make up a lie about hitting my car and now my insurance is liable to pay even though not at fault.

What has anyone else experienced in this situation? I called the cops after the accident and was told to simply go through insurance and then that backfired.”
