A reader reports:

“Monday night at 1am a metro bus collided into 11 parked cars on Porter Street. I woke up at 1am to a huge crash and looked outside my window from my apartment building on Quebec Street, but didn’t see anything but the top of the metro bus. I found out this morning from my apartment building that the bus collided into the cars. I don’t know how much damage happened but I haven’t been able to find any information besides what my apartment building had sent the residents. I don’t know if anyone was hurt on the bus but sounds like so far just cars were damaged.”

“H & I Streets NW Bus Lanes to be Permanent Effective 11/12”

“Today, the Bowser Administration announced that the bus lane pilot on H and I Streets NW will become permanent effective November 12, 2019. Bus speeds and reliability were improved during the pilot program, and DDOT is continuing to make adjustments that will enhance the experiences of bus riders along the route.

“Under Mayor Bowser’s leadership, we are committed to improving bus travel for residents and commuters across all eight wards,” said the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) Director Jeff Marootian. “The H/I bus lanes will make the commutes of thousands of bus passengers traveling through downtown faster and more reliable every day.”

Preliminary data comparing June 2018 and June 2019 found improvements in bus speeds and reliability on I Street NW but not on H Street NW. DDOT will implement the following changes to remedy operational challenges identified during the pilot period: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Beware of this crazy mid 60s well dressed white man. I got on the bus at Safeway and walked into the middle of a screaming match. I am almost certain that he was the instigator because it was him versus the entire bus. He was mostly screaming at a mid 40s man, but also screamed at women, other passengers, and the bus driver. “Metro is advising bus customers of the potential for major delays in the area of Gallery Place this afternoon due to road closures.

This morning Metro was advised by the DC Metropolitan Police Department of a previously unscheduled demonstration at the intersection of 7th and H streets NW (Gallery Place) this afternoon/evening that may draw large crowds, closing streets to vehicular traffic.
