From WMATA:

“While emphasizing that bus service is limited to essential trips only, Metro is taking additional action to enhance the safety of its frontline workforce by implementing rear-door boarding across the Metrobus system, effective Tuesday, March 24. Several other U.S. transit systems have already implemented rear-door boarding in response to the COVID-19 public health emergency.

Starting tomorrow, all Metrobus riders are asked to enter and exit the bus using the rear door at all times, except anyone needing the ADA boarding ramp (e.g. people using wheelchairs), or anyone requesting the bus to “kneel” to facilitate their boarding. (more…)

Kristin reports at 8:44am: “I mean traffic is always a little lighter on Fridays but never like this. First picture is Court House platform at 8:30am.

Next the 3rd car of the DC bound train, which even on Friday should be standing room only.

Then, Metro Center at 8:40am, taken from the Glenmont side. It’s really eerie.

On the plus side it means there’s seats or places to lean so no one has to touch the bars.”

Meanwhile on the bus: (more…)

“Porter Street, NW. Cars hit were in direction of rock creek/beach drive!”

A reader reports:

“Monday night at 1am a metro bus collided into 11 parked cars on Porter Street. I woke up at 1am to a huge crash and looked outside my window from my apartment building on Quebec Street, but didn’t see anything but the top of the metro bus. I found out this morning from my apartment building that the bus collided into the cars. I don’t know how much damage happened but I haven’t been able to find any information besides what my apartment building had sent the residents. I don’t know if anyone was hurt on the bus but sounds like so far just cars were damaged.”

From WMATA:

“Metro riders can now get to where they need to go even easier thanks to Apple Maps adding support for real-time transit information in Washington DC this week. Customers using Apple Maps will now see detailed transit schedules, live departure and arrival times, the current location of a Metro train or bus, and system connections to help plan their journey.
