“Dear PoPville,

I live in the Mt. Pleasant area, and every. single. day. the same person sits inside their parked car, idling, blasting music. I know it’s hard to be entertained and stuck at home, but if I can hear your music with all my windows and doors closed, it’s simply too loud. It’s not great having that going on during work calls, but honestly, it’s annoying in general. No one wants to be an unwilling participant to your dj-ing. Besides, who the heck idles for hours?! Is anyone else experiencing this and knows what to do? I don’t want to personally start a fight with someone who can easily find out where I live in a time like this.”

“Dear PoPville,

We live next to a vacant rowhome, that DC won’t declare a vacant property because a kind neighbor mows the lawn. We filed a number of 311 complaints over the years but to no avail. But we know the owner has been in a long term facility for over 6 years and would occasionally send a friend or worker to co into the house. The house is in super bad shape and any reasonable passerby can tell it’s vacant However we now see animals going in and out of the house and have just recently heard animals behind the party walls from inside our house. Thanks to Kate for sending the awesomeness above: “Every morning someone updates the date on the sidewalk of S Street NW between 14th and 15th, and I appreciate that person. (My dog decided he wanted to be in the photo too. I also appreciate my dog.)”

Please email your awesomeness to [email protected] and let me know where you found it.

Much more awesomeness: (more…)

“Dear PoPville [sent at 2:41am],

So a couple of nights a week this guy just screams through out the night. No matter many how many times I call the police they do absolutely nothing because he stops when he sees them and acts as if he is sleeping. As soon as they leave he gets back up and starts again. This happens for about two hours every time he does it. What are my options to fix this problem? I know the building he lays on is an empty storefront and I don’t know who owns the building.”

“Dear PoPville,

This past Sunday, May 8, I took my typical 4 mile walk that takes me up Massachusetts Ave toward DuPont Circle. During this time of self-quarantine, I take this walk almost daily to get fresh air, connect with friends and family via the phone, and get some exercise (all while masked of course). On this day specifically, I was nearing the cross streets of Massachusetts and 17th. I had been talking to a friend on the phone, laughing about a quirky thing that had happened that day when all of a sudden, an older man (~60s) with his friend took off his mask and accosted me as he passed me in the crosswalk.

“Your voice and laugh is so loud and I am so sick of having to listen to you a block away! You should trying shutting the fuck up.”

I was absolutely shocked. I turned to him and asked why I should care how loud he thinks my voice and laugh are.

Then, in front of his friend (also in his 60s), and a handful of passersby, he shouted (more…)
