“Dear PoPville,

There’s an little known DC Code section that allows community groups to file lawsuits against properties that are being used to sell, store or manufacture illegal drugs; that are being used to unlawfully store or sell guns; or that are being used to facilitate prostitution.

Some residents in Truxton Circle have a pretty dire and threatening situation going on with a tenant on a block and we’re considering all options. Over the past 24 months, the residents and/or guests of this household have dealt drugs, brandished firearms, threatened other residents, destroyed property, spray-painted security cameras, and generally created an unlivable situation in the immediate area of the property. 3830 Georgia Ave, NW

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve been up twice this week between the hours of 3am and 4:30am because of a delivery truck for Safeway on Georgia Ave in Petworth (loud banging, automatic lift noise, beeping of the lift, the engine rumble the entire time of the large truck). I have to be up for work at 5:15am and I live in an apartment above the Safeway. Shouldn’t these delivery trucks be going to a loading dock? (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

New construction is about to start right next to our apartment, for a 9 story condo building. We’re trying to decide what to do and curious about people’s experiences with the noise from construction like this, particularly whether the noise level changes at all over time. Is it just awful the whole time? Or is it particularly bad for a few months in the beginning (demolition, foundation work, etc.)?”

“Dear PoPville,

My building cut off our AC last week and with today’s high at 82, my apartment has been unbearably hot. Last night the thermostat read 78 at 10pm. Do DC renters have any options to file a legal complaint?

An updated reading from this morning. (80 degrees)”

“Dear PoPville,

It is ongoing as I type and it is 3.10 am EST. How on earth can they have a permit for this? And how is it possible that this is the only hour this work can be done? Any recommendations on who to take it up with?”

Letter OP sent to WMATA:

“I am living in the Dupont Circle area where you have a canopy construction that goes on after midnight and into the morning and creates UNBEARABLE NOISE. (more…)

Thanks to Michael for sending an update to the Civility Lives post:

“Block and alley cleanup

Sharing a positive approach to the trash problem in DC. After many months of an alley just piling up with garbage and weeds growing everywhere, and a couple of people taking taking unilateral action, 8 families out of 25 on the block, rallied on Sunday afternoon to clean and weed. It was amazing to see and after two weeks everyone continues to look good. Can we start a trend? Everyone can do this. Anyone with a trashy alley or block should do this.”
