“Donny the Tax March Chicken”

From a press release:

“As Republicans in Congress begin to move forward with a plan to slash taxes for the wealthiest Americans, a diverse coalition of labor unions, grassroots organizations, and economic justice advocates are demanding that President Donald Trump not only release his returns, but drop his plan to cut taxes for corporations and the wealthiest Americans.

President Trump’s failure to disclose his tax returns breaks with decades of precedent and leaves the American people in the dark about his potential compromising business ties with foreign adversaries like Russia and how his administration’s policies might benefit his bottom line.

The Tax March in Washington, D.C., will begin with a rally outside the U.S. Capitol before proceeding past the Trump International Hotel — a living embodiment of one of Trump’s biggest conflicts of interests — and the IRS building. (more…)

AFSR Launch Party

From an email:

“DC voters take note! You are invited to the official launch of Americans for Self-Rule in support of its newly created PAC. We are working against those who are working against DC rights. If you’re as annoyed as we are at what Congress – including Jason Chaffetz – is doing to undermine our democratic will, I hope you’ll attend the event on Tuesday, April 18 (Tax Day!) at the H Street Country Club. The event starts at 6pm. The tickets cost $51 and they get you two drinks and is a contribution to the PAC. Tickets are available online here.

He’s back, yup, this guy. Fortunately no reports of any crashes yet. Thanks to all who sent word. Allison writes:

“Still confident despite his big fat health care FAIL today (also the music it plays is SO LOUD – is that legal???) – spotted at 11th and Mass @ 6:45p”

Update from Sara:

“Trump mobile broke down and blocked the H St Streetcar and entrance to Autozone for a while tonight. Seems like karma.”

“Dear PoPville,

While guns are always a controversial topic, I am getting a *little* sick of politicians from other places determining what is best for the people living and working in DC. Per the WaPo,

“A freshman Republican member of Congress from Virginia has introduced legislation to void D.C.’s strict gun laws as one of his first bills, sparking a retort from Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton that he should pay more attention to the lax gun laws in his own state.

Rep. Thomas Garrett’s bill, filed March 15, would eliminate the city’s prohibition on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines while making it easier for residents and visitors to carry concealed firearms. (more…)

Thanks to Timmy for bringing this up in the rant/revel:

“Jason Chaffetz is the devil. He legitimately hates DC and wants to ruin it. We need to find a way to get this guy out of office before he destroys our city.”

The Post reports Drain the swamp? No, let’s just move it, Rep. Chaffetz suggests.

“Chaffetz, who chairs the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, proposed a resolution Wednesday that says Congress thinks it is unnecessary for federal agencies to be located in the District.”
