Lost Dog 2

“I found a dog hanging out around 14th and Crittenden St NW yesterday (7/11) around noon. He’s a very sweet terrier/poodle mix that had a collar but no tags and looks recently groomed. I have registered him with the Humane Society and put out signs and posts on social media but no leads yet. I went to the vet with him this morning and he does have a chip, but it is not registered.

Please contact 240-377-1323.”

A reader reports:

“I found a lost dog this evening wandering around my neighborhood. I would ideally like the person to identify the dog’s neighborhood and distinguishing characteristics before returning it to its owner.”

If you recognize this pup please email me at [email protected] and I’ll put you in touch with OP. Thanks.

Brookland Pint
716 Monroe Street, NE

From Drew Swift, General Manager of Brookland Pint (on Sunday):

“Due to an unfortunate incident today, effective immediately, Brookland Pint has a new pet policy:

Pets are no longer allowed on the property under any circumstance. As always, and in compliance with ADA requirements*, service dogs and their handlers will continue to be welcome.

We understand and are sympathetic to the pet-owning portion of the Brookland community who relied on our patio as a welcome space for themselves and their pets.  We have always tried to be as lenient as possible with regards to DC Health Codes** to accommodate everyone and regret that due to the events of today, we can no longer risk exposing our guests and staff to the potential hazards of substandard or inexperienced pet ownership.

Our purpose of writing is to explain this shift in policy and notify as much of the community as we can to prevent turning people away as a result of this shift.

This evening a 6-year old boy was bitten on the leg by a dog on our patio. A family was finishing their meal inside when the boy’s uncle went over to Filter for a coffee. On the patio, two women were sitting near the planters with their dog. Our pet policy up to this point has allowed guests with pets to sit around the edges of the patio, with the understanding that the pet needed to be outside the perimeter of the patio, marked by large planters. Inevitably, especially when food hits the table, some dogs creep past the planters and end up under the tables. This evening, two women had ordered their food, along with a hamburger to go that was brought out with the rest of the meal. They had cut up the burger and were feeding it to the dog under the table. The 6-year-old boy walked across the patio to meet his uncle at Filter, when the dog quickly became territorial, darted away from the table, and bit the boy on the leg. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

This afternoon, on our way to Eastern Market we came across a bunny in Capitol Hill hopping around right near the library on 7th & D. After guessing it was probably somebody’s pet, I called the Washington Humane Society while my husband went and got the bunny a snack. The Humane Society came and picked up the bunny, so if anyone in Capitol Hill is missing their pet, they should call 202-576-6664. We also alerted the librarians about the dilemma in case they heard about anyone looking for a missing rabbit. Here’s hoping they are all reunited soon.”

“Dear PoPville,

Was at Friendship Animal Hospital and this little guy was there. The people who brought him in had found him in Potomac, Maryland off River Road. He has a microchip but it’s not registered. Adorable, French Bulldog, tongue hangs out on left side. If someone lost him, they should call Friendship Animal Hospital.”

“Dear PoPville,

I was walking my dog this morning and came across this distinguished gentleman (he’s a black and brown dachshund) cruising the streets by himself. He was found on the 600 block of F St NE wearing a blue collar with no tag. We brought him to Union Vet to be scanned and he has a chip but it is not registered. If anybody recognizes him they they can contact me at sam.zivin(at)gmail.com.”

“Dear PoPville,

My dog Echo ran after being spooked by another dog on Wed June 8 evening. She has now been missing over 40 hours. I am a US foreign service officer who adopted her while I was posted in Sri Lanka. Echo has an interesting history as a street dog swept up in a city cleanup ahead of a Commonwealth heads meeting who was rescued from awful conditions in captivity with her puppies. She has been my baby for 2 years. We moved to Fairlington (near Shirlington) only a week ago. I have been advised to spread the news far afield since beagles are big travelers.

She is tricolored beagle mix, mostly black with white chest and paws and gold markings. About 40 lbs and 2 feet tall. Was wearing a collar with a green name tag, harness and leash when she ran. Please contact Sheela at 7038250620.

“Dear PoPville,

We can only offer $1,000 but we hope to raise awareness that dog theft is a reality and anyone that buys a dog without papers may very well be buying a stolen dog.”
