$850,000 sound right for this carriage house?

La Carbonara (Italian Restaurant) was located at 1926 9th St NW (south of U St, NW.) We judged them back in April ’09. Their phone has been disconnected and I noticed the for sale sign out front last Sunday. Anyone know when they closed? Will anyone miss them? Were there any fans of their former art event called Spirito di Vino?

I’ll be sure to keep an eye on the space to see who purchases it.

Ed. Note: I recognize that homelessness is still an issue in this corridor and in our city.  It is not my intention to trivialize the seriousness of this problem by including this photo with this post.

We judged Yellowhouse back in June ’09. I just noticed that their sign has been flipped over and the building painted white at the 600 block of T Street, NW near the Howard Theater and Florida Ave. I’ll be sure to keep my eye on the space to see if someone else is moving in.

At the time we discussed Yellowhouse there was lots of talk about nearby Zenebech Injera which had temporarily closed but is of course now open with a liquor license.

“Dear PoP,

I remembered you posting about Beau Thai restaurant in the past. Well I stopped there for dinner on Friday and our server informed me that she had just secured a liquor license that afternoon. Yay!

That place has really stepped up its game in the last few months, so can’t wait to see how they’ll fare now that they’ve got the green light for drinks.”

Beau Thai is located at 1700 New Jersey Avenue NW (by R St). Now all they need is their outdoor seating license and this is going to be one very sweet spot!

“Dear PoP,

Any idea what happened to the Angelico’s at 1334 U Street, NW? It seems to have reverted back to Jumbo Slice. Would be nice to know because there is a decent amount of us that have LivingSocial deals to it.”

Strange it was almost exactly a year ago that this space became an Angelico’s. So, I stopped by on Tues. afternoon and the guy working the front desk said it’s still under the same ownership they just decided to change the name and perhaps more importantly for the question above: they are still taking the LivingSocial deal.

Which do you think is a better name?

And just south of Logan Circle at 1418 12th St, NW (in the former Roosevelt Food Shoppe carryout space) comes Pizzolis Pizzeria. It’s a takeout place that opened up about two weeks ago that also will deliver if you live between 1.5-2 miles away. In addition to pizza they have stromboli, calzone, pasta, salads, subs, gyros and more. Their flier says:

“Pizzoli’s is your neighborhood pizzeria. Our goal is to serve the fresh natural ingredient and tasty food. All of our pizzas, stromboli, flat bread and foccacia bread made with organic flour. Our dough is made fresh daily on site with 100% organic wheat flour mixed with spring water and extra virgin olive oil. Our pizza sauce is made with organic sweet tomato with real italian herbs and kosher salt topped with top quality fresh ingredient and best cheese money can buy.”

Sounds awesome – makes me wish I lived within the delivery zone.
