Alright, alright, alright. It’s been a minute – so let’s remedy that. Meet me and some of the folks from Real Living at Home next Wednesday, November 8th from 5:30 – 7:30pm (though I’ll probably stay later) at Homestead (3911 Georgia Avenue, NW.) First 40 folks get a free drink ticket! Hey-o. I’ll also bring some t-shirts as usual. And while it’s not an officially anniversary party – let’s also toast PoPville turning 11 years old this November. And let’s also toast the world still spinning round and round. See you in a week!!

At Littles, the plates are designed to be shared. This pop-up’s goal is simple: to source the best authentic Caribbean and local ingredients, that can be enjoyed with good friends, conversation and music!

One of Chef Terry’s missions is to make Caribbean food healthful for the body and soul and embrace vegan diners. In addition to classic curry and jerk meats, there will vegan entrees and sides. Entrees include vegan curry shrimp; veggie tails, a version with all the island flavor but no oxtails; and creamy mac’n’cheese.

Thanks to Laura for sending this great news about the former Ethiopian bodega spot across the street from the Petworth metro. The very early word on Yelp for Pho Viet USA is very very good:

“This new place is wonderful! Right off the metro so it’s in a great spot. Lee (who served us) is so friendly and awesome. He treated us to some of the egg roles and they were amazing. The Pho was pretty good too. Yummy jasmine tea! We’ll be eating here again!! Great addition to our neighborhood.”

In September we lamented that Fish in the Hood had still not reopened after the terrible fire struck back in April. Thanks to all who sent the GoFundMe page that is now live (they are looking to raise $10,000):

“Bill White began Fish in the Neighborhood as a family business in 1996, taking orders out of a home kitchen. In no time, orders were coming in at two or three hundred each weekend. Our family eventually raised enough money to rent the building on 3601 Georgia Avenue.

For 20 years, we’ve been proud to serve great food with support from the loving people in this community. Fish in the Hood is a special place because we offer something for everyone, our customers include doctors, lawyers, politicians and actors, in addition to everyday people who just need a good meal. We love our customers, and we love to give back to the community we share. (more…)
