Thanks to Nate and Tom for sending: “Tabla opened quietly over the weekend in Park View. This is the smaller-size spinoff Georgian restaurant from the people who run Supra on 11th Street. The wife and I went there for take-out today. Great food, decent prices, cool spot. Next time we’ll dine in on their patio.”

From a press release:

“Jonathan and Laura Nelms, owners of Supra, announce the July 6 opening of D.C.’s second Georgian restaurant, Tabla. Tabla will be a casual neighborhood restaurant at the corner of Lamont Street and Georgia Avenue in the Park View neighborhood (between Petworth and Howard University). In accordance with DC regulations, Tabla will begin with modified service to include takeout, outdoor seating on the 25-seat patio, and spaced indoor seating at 50% capacity. Contactless ordering and delivery service will be available in the near future through the DC-based Table Side app.

‘Tabla’ is a Georgian word for an outdoor table used to serve the copious amounts of food characteristic of a traditional supra, a celebratory feast enjoyed in the country. The culinary team at Tabla, led by Chef Lonnie Zoeller and Supra veteran Alfredo Martinez, with input from Georgian national and Supra Chef Ani Kandelaki, have created a menu centered around khachapuri and khinkali (soup dumplings). In addition to classic varieties of these Georgian favorites, Tabla looks forward to rolling out its own versions of the stuffed cheese breads and dumplings using seasonal ingredients, playful twists on tradition, or whatever the chefs come up with when inspiration strikes. The Indiegogo campaign says:

“When we started building St. Vincent, we envisioned a place where folks from all walks of life would come to share community and bond over our mutual love of good wine, food and live music. We were right on target for our opening in early Spring 2020, but that got reality-checked HARD by COVID-19. So here we are with a beautiful space and nobody to share it with…but we still have rent to pay. So, in anticipation of finally being allowed to open, we are launching this campaign to get folks excited about what we’ve spent the last year and a half working on. Have a look at our perks and see if anything tickles your fancy!

We’re hoping to raise at least $35,000 with this campaign to: (more…)

Thanks to Daniela and Amanda for sending:

“I walked past Bun DC this morning and noticed that a “for sale” sign has been added to the building. The restaurant was a welcome addition to Park View and I’ll be very sad to see it closed.”

The listing (for $2,000,000) says:

“Great Business opportunity! Commercial/Residential 3 levels building renovated in 2015. The property offers a Restaurant (currently in Operation), located on the main and lower levels with front and rear patios for additional tables. On the upper level a 1 Bed/1 Bath Apartment with a full kitchen, washer/dryer, and hardwood floors throughout. All of the Restaurant equipment conveys, which makes this almost a turnkey situation for a restaurant operator. (more…)

Reana first reported at 12:06am: “Multiple what I assume shots fired around Sherman and Irving. Fireworks were going on earlier, but this definitely seemed like shots.”

Many others reported up to 12 shots fired and a very quick police response.

An adult male has been transported to an area hospital with a non life threatening gunshot wound to the upper body. Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099.”

“Dear PoPville,

I want to know the reasoning for putting jersey barriers on Georgia thus blocking accessible parking for the CVS. I don’t want to have to cross Georgia Avenue and I would not want to see other seniors taking their lives in their hands having to park across the street from CVS. There has not been a line down the street, the same so-called argument used by DDOT to block parking at the Safeway on Georgia and Randolph. There was no hearing that I am aware of and no public comment period. Now I hear they want to close streets to allow restaurants to shut down public space for social distancing. It seems as if when it comes to the average citizen, with DDOT you have no rights.”
