Update from MPD:

“Good evening. At approximately 3:50pm, officers from the Third District were on patrol in the area of 13th and Columbia Rd NW when they heard the sounds of gunshots. The officers observed a moped exit the area at a high rate of speed and attempted to stop the operator to investigate. The vehicle fled from the officers who pursued it with the assistance of our Air Support Unit. Ultimately, the moped was stopped in the area of 3rd and F Streets NE where the operator was apprehended. Fortunately, there were no accidents or injuries as a result of this pursuit. (more…)

When We Get Out of this Mess – ‘Brine’ is coming to H Street, NE!!

In an attempt to not be totally doom and gloom – I’ll assume this is still happening although, I guess we should take all ‘coming soon’ posts with a grain of salt, no pun intended. Thanks to a reader for sending word that Brine is coming to the former Outsider space which closed in October 2019. Previously this space was home to H Street Coffee and SOVA before them. I’m assuming Brine will be some sorta seafood restaurant. Stay tuned and fingers crossed.

A reader reports: “Just want to warn folks about a group of young males (maybe 10-12) on JUMP Bikes accosting people South of H ST NE & West of Kingsman Park. I was driving Tuesday (3/17) down 14th ST NE when I came to the stop sign (F ST NE) where they were stopped on the corner at 3:34pm. My window was rolled down and one of the kids yelled “THE F*** YOU LOOKING AT” then punched me in the face. Filed a police report but MPD said these guys have been wreaking havoc all week. If everyone could keep an eye out & stay safe out there!”

The old Argonaut officially for sale on H Street, NE

Thanks to Rich for sending: “Just saw a big for sale sign on the old Argonaut. Thought it might be of interest to folks who keep track of H Street. Would love to know more about what the potential plans are and who buys it.”

The Argonaut abruptly closed back in July 2016. A terribly sad day. In 2017 we noted the space was being cleaned out. Crickets since then until now.

“Restaurateur Asad Sheikh is expanding his latest venture Butter Chicken Company, a fast casual concept, to the H Street NE corridor. Located at 500 H Street NE, this outpost solely dedicated to India’s iconic dish Butter Chicken, opens Tuesday, February 18th. Similar to the downtown DC location, only 300 servings are prepared per day, however the H Street NE restaurant will be open all day long, with 100 servings prepared for lunch and another 200 for dinner. Sheikh previously opened award winning restaurants in Northern Virginia (Curry Mantra London Curry House and 1947), before deciding to focus on Washington, DC. Sheikh opened two locations of Bombay Street Food in Columbia Heights and Capitol Hill in 2019, inspired by the bright and vibrant street food flavors he grew up eating in Bombay.
