Never a dull moment on the grocery store beat in Glover Park!! The potential Trader Joe’s at the former Holiday Inn as been confirmed(ish) – from the Glover Park listserv:

“I just heard that the deal is confirmed for Trader Joe’s to locate in the new development at the site of the old Holiday Inn. I’m not sure exactly about the timing but it’s likely sometime in late 2018 or early 2019, given that the ground isn’t even broken yet.”

As for the Whole Foods closure, Whole Foods announced on the listserv:

“We announced today that we will be remodeling the Georgetown store to offer our customers a fresh, new shopping experience. Our goal is to exceed our customers’ expectations on every shopping trip, and making these investments in the store will help us to do that. We apologize for the inconvenience and welcome our customers to continue to shop with us at our nearby stores, including our brand new H Street location.”

About a month ago the Glover Park Whole Foods briefly closed after being cited for food safety violations by the Department of Health. Other readers have reported the store has been closed since Monday. And as of this morning, Jamie updates us “still closed”

I’ve emailed Whole Foods for an update. Stay tuned.

Thanks to all who emailed the Washington Business Journal story “Trader Joe’s in talks to open in north Georgetown”.

Some commenters have been talking about this in the rant/revel and other posts so here’s a proper post for it. As to the North Georgetown/Glover Park name dispute? Why are you doing this to me God? Why?!?!? OK, sorry about that. Let’s officially start the clock for this Trader Joe’s watch.

Now keep in mind – the clock is still running for the Eastern Market and Union Market(ish) Trader Joe’s.

“The Glover Park Whole Foods, 2323 Wisconsin Ave NW, has been shut down until further notice by the Department of Health. I failed to snap a picture of the red poster notification, but “imminent health hazard(s)” was noted.”

Where is the National Anthem Coming From?

I love mysteries like this – for the past week or so I’ve been getting numerous tweets and emails from Adams Morgan, Woodley Park and now Glover Park asking:

“Wondering if anyone else heard the national anthem this morning. I walked out of my building (in Glover Park, a few buildings north of the Russian Embassy) at 8am, and distinctly heard the Star Spangled Banner. It wasn’t very quiet. Not sure if it was coming from the Russian embassy, but it sounded like it was coming from that direction.”

Has anyone else heard it (if so what neighborhood?) and have you been able to pinpoint the origin?

“The Metropolitan Police Department’s Narcotics and Special Investigation Division Major Case Unit announced four arrests have been made in an Illegal Marijuana Operation, which occurred in the 2300 block of Wisconsin Avenue, Northwest, on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at approximately 3:37 pm.

Members of the Major Case Unit executed a search warrant in the listed location. Suspects were located and found to be in possession of 3 ¼ pounds of marijuana with a street value of $58,880.

“Spreading the word about the Fiber Arts Festival, coming to DC for the first time this year! Located at the Glover Park-Burleith Farmers Market which is in the parking lot of Hardy Middle School (1819 35th Street, NW). It is this Saturday from 9am to 1pm, there will be a free petting zoo, 5 local fiber farms, tons of hand knit yarn and wares, plus bountiful local food. Its a great way to celebrate all things local within the community! Yoga District of Glover Park is even hosting free yoga in the garden of the school from 10am to 11am.
