Thanks to Ishaba and others who send word that the Philz in Dupont is closing on Apr 30th. One reader wrote:
“Philz in Dupont says they’re closing at the end of the month. DM’d them on Instagram and they said it was “purely a financial decision.” Wonder what the deal is since it’s always pretty packed and popular.”
Philz opened here to much excitement back in 2018. Prior to them this was the home to a Cosi that closed back in 2014. Updates when we learn more.

“At this point we’ve been forced to protect our property, our building, and our residents from the continued hate crimes against us. To date we’ve experienced nearly 20K in property damage and an undetermined financial loss of business because of these circumstances. Russia House’s future is uncertain and we still have faith that it will one day provide DC with another 20 years of amazing experiences.” – Aaron McGovern
Thanks to all who messaged me on Friday which was also April Fool’s Day so I needed to see this with my own eyes to confirm. And indeed my Sakharov Sculpture, our Sakharov Sculpture is gone. There’s a new(ish) last week or so no parking zone on 17th between S and R that appears to have been changed from zone 2 parking in the past week or so.
It’s especially confusing as when they redid the street 3 months ago they eliminated roughly 15% of the parking but clearly painted boxes for where cars are allowed. (more…)
