Anna Maria’s Italian restaurant is located at 1737 Connecticut Ave NW. Back in May it looked they were only closed for renovations. Sadly it now seems they are closed for good. Their phone number has been disconnected and there is a big for lease sign in the window. I hope their classic sign at least makes it to the Smithsonian…

In happier news I’m told that Kabaji Grill is opening up this week at 1351 Connecticut Ave., NW.

We learned the shop was coming back in early Sept.. This is also the same building where POSH consignment store recently opened. Here’s a note I received from the owner:

“We are located at 1828 on 18th Street between T and Swann, across from Lauriol Restaurant. Ansonia Wines grows out of a small, family run business specializing in French wines. For the past few years Ansonia Imports has supplied wine to some of Washington’s finest restaurants, including CityZen, Citronelle, Komi, Obelisk and Central. Now the Ansonia Wines retail store will bring such wines to individual wine lovers in DC’s Dupont Circle neighborhood. The majority of our wines come from Burgundy, but we also sell wines from the Alsace, the Rhone, Bordeaux and Italy.

We offer hand-selected wines, from winemakers we know. We think that people enjoy their wine a little more when they know something about who made it and where it came from – in our store you’ll find books, maps, and photographs with our producers, all designed to bring our customers closer to the producers that make their wine. We insist on complete climate control for all of our wines through the entire journey from vineyard to our store. Our wines are as fresh as they are at the domaine.

We had a soft opening this past Saturday, and are open from 10:30am-8:30pm Monday through Thursday, and 10am-9pm Friday and Saturday. We are planning an open house event Saturday December 12th where we will open a larger number and range of wines throughout the day.

More information can also be found at our website, www.AnsoniaWines.com, or on our blog: ansoniawines.blogspot.com.”

“Dear PoP,

I saw something yesterday while taking a walk during work that I thought I would pass along. There are several flyers posted in the Dupont area announcing that Rosemary’s Thyme on 18th St is offering a totally free Thanksgiving dinner from 12-2pm Thanksgiving Day. I think this would be a great opportunity for some of us who live comfortable lives to take someone who may not have enough to eat not only for a meal but for some genuine human interaction.”

This is very cool of Rosemary’s Thyme.

Odeon Cafe is located at 1714 Connecticut Ave, NW. I’ve always been tempted by the sign for a “whole Maine Lobster” deal out front. Their Web site says:

“All sorts of seafood make their way into the antipasto, salads, 16 pasta dishes, 12 entrees and pizzas. To wit: scampi de granchi (butter fried shrimp stuffed with crabmeat) and the fresh catch of the day. Complimentary marinated olives and pepperocini along with crusty Italian rolls, provide tasty noshes while awaiting the main course.”

You can see their menus here. Any fans? Any particular specialty you’d recommend?

We first spoke about this spot back in July. On Sunday I took a look in the window and it looks all set to go. On their Web site (beware annoying background music) you can see some renderings of the DC spot if you go to “news” then “USA opening in Washington”. The space looks quite nice, though it looks like they’ll also be offering delivery…
