I had the opportunity to stop by Maddy’s in the old Timberlakes spot located at 1726 Connecticut Ave, NW. I was able to speak one of the owners, Gaynor Jablonski. Jablonski is also owner of the Ugly Mug located at 723 8th St SE. Jablonski’s business partner is Dale Shields and Maddy’s is named after Shields’ mother. The spot has been open for about a month. Jablonski described the place as having many elements of the Ugly Mug but slightly higher end. I found it to be a very comfortable spot.

You can see the menu here and the beer and wine list here.

Incidentally the Ugly Mug and Maddy’s are showing a big fight on Sat. for no cover.

If you’re in Dupont (as well as Alexandria and Bethesda) and you have a pen Washingtonian reports that the BGR locations are offering free burgers if you write “BGR” anywhere on your body. Free regular and veggie burgers offered. Since this has been covered by lots of folks on the web and via twitter I suspect the lines are going to be insane. The Dupont location is located at 1514 Connecticut Ave, NW so if you’re in the area…

Scion is located at 2100 P St., NW. I remember this spot used to be, I think, a pretty good Italian restaurant. Now it is “contemporary American cuisine with subtle Asian influences.” You can find their menus here. Any fans? Anyone remember the restaurant that used to be in this spot?

Thanks to Dallas for sending the photos. POSH is located at 1828 18th Street, NW above Ansonia Wines (which I also hear is progressing towards opening). The store looks pretty good – be sure to check them out if you’re in the neighborhood.

Ojo Latino is a series by Néstor Sánchez Cordero. Néstor writes, “This year, despite the rain, the race truly rocked!!!”.

Three more photos after the jump. Plus a bonus slide show from PoPville Flickr user Sanjay Suchak (more…)

I’ve never actually been to this annual race on 17th Street, NW but friends have told me it is phenomenal. I’m not sure if it is a rain or shine event – anyone know? Also anyone know what time and where exactly it starts. A bunch of friends are going to some bars along 17th Street to get a good viewing spot. Sadly, I can’t make it tonight – so if anyone goes please take some photos for me! You can email me the photos to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com or upload them to the PoPville flickr pool here.

Wow, all this time I thought the Cairo was rentals. Ok, so I thought this was an interesting property because two units were combined into one. Do you think the layout works? (You can see the floor plan in the virtual tour.) Does $578,825 sound reasonable for this 3 bed/2 bath?

For comparison there is also an interesting 2 bed/1bath also for sale for $398,500. Which do you like better?

I ran into one of the owners and his family on Sunday and he invited me inside to take a look and snap some photos. It looks like it’s gonna be pretty sweet. You can take a look at the menu here. (There are veggie options). The space itself wasn’t 100% completed but you could tell it had a comfortable feel. He said the place would open on Thurs. or Fri. but to call first to make sure which day (202-299-1071). There are old album covers, which obviously appeals to me (sorry for the slightly blurry photo), on the wall:

The table tops (which weren’t assembled yet) also look pretty sweet:

So has anyone sampled the goods from their Bethesda or Alexandria spots?
