From a press release:

“Dupont Underground and the District of Columbia’s Commission on Fashion Arts and Events (CFAE) in partnership with the National Cherry Blossom Festival will hold Underneath It All: An Underground Fashion Showcase on April 15 featuring acclaimed local designers from across the Washington, D.C. area.

“The fashion industry in Washington, D.C. has significantly grown in the past few years, and we are elated to feature the outstanding work of our local designers. In 2015, the fashion economy generated $244 million in wages and created 7,500 jobs. We expect that number to rise as we continue to grow and attract new talent to Washington, D.C.,” said Christine Brooks-Cropper, President & CEO, DC Fashion Foundation and CFAE Chair. “We are also honored to be part of the National Cherry Blossom Festival and to have a national platform to showcase the District’s exciting fashion arts industry.”

During the closing week of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, Underneath It All: An Underground Fashion Showcase, will celebrate the cultural and historical diversity of our nation’s capital, while paying homage to the international relationships that built this festival. (more…)

“I walk by it a couple of times a week and the last few times I have done so at 6 pm, they appear to be closed. There have been no social media posts by them since late January. Did this place finally bite the dust?”

BUCKEYE-BEAR-The-Ballroom

“Dear PoPville,

I had an incident Friday night that MPD refused to take a report for but I thought it would be good for folks to know about anyways. I’m a U Street resident and was returning from my late night shift at the hospital at approx 3:30am last night. I was driving down 17th around the intersection of Q Street which was fairly empty at that hour. A unkempt looking Hispanic man, maybe in his 30’s, wearing a dirty white shirt, tried to flag me down but I did not stop. (more…)

Could a Comfort One be coming? Stay tuned!!

Thanks to John for sending word:

“The “Soviet” CVS store south of Dupont Circle on 19th St (next to Panera, not the one on the circle itself) has officially closed.

It’s not really a surprise seeing as it was a block from the other one and was always poorly stocked, but nonetheless another storefront in Dupont is now vacant.”

This is the CVS that used to the movie theater – what was the name of that movie theater?
