From MPD:

At the listed location, the suspect broke into the residence and went to the victim’s bedroom. The suspect then sexually assaulted the victim and stole items from her home before fleeing.

On Tuesday, February 14, 2017, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, 42-year-old Ronald Berton Jr, of Craigsville, Virginia, was arrested and charged with First Degree Sexual Abuse with Aggravating Circumstances, Burglary One, Kidnapping, and Robbery.”

I am always amazed that a 10-yo case like this can be solved. I wonder how it was done – DNA?

Apparently this man was already in jail for raping another woman in 2010!

“Police say 42-year-old Ronald Berton Jr. of Craigsville, Virginia, was indicted in November in the incident. Berton was arrested Tuesday in a prison in Virginia, where he is serving a sentence for a 2010 rape.”

Wow. Props to MPD. I’m curious on more details, though, as I the release doesn’t indicate kidnapping.

Perhaps restraining her from leaving the home constitutes kidnapping?

      • PJL

You’ve got to transport them/move them from the first location in order for it to be kidnapping.

*usually. DC’s kidnapping law is TERRIBLY written. Hardly the big point of this story, so i won’t obsess on that aspect further. Glad this guy has been charged and hopefully this brings the victim some peace.
