Mandu suffered a devastating fire back in July 2017 and in the words of co-owner Chef Danny Lee:

“No words can describe how good it feels to have guests back in our house on 18th St.”

Mandu was a neighborhood gem and one of the truly great spots in town where you knew you were going to have a awesome meal in a chill atmosphere every single time. Fortunately, Anju is fixing to pick right up where Mandu left off. If not even more so. I took an early taste last night and haven’t stopped smiling since. (more…)

Located at 1317 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Muncheez Dupont Circle will open doors at 11:00 a.m., and the first 200 people in line will receive a complimentary bowl or signature pita.

The latest additions to the Muncheez menu feature a cauliflower pita made with French fries, lettuce, tomatoes and tahini and a lentil tabbouleh mezze. New components to the eatery’s popular bowls include lentils and baby spinach as a base and fried cauliflower as a protein, expanding the vegan and vegetarian options available for lunch and dinner. Signature Muncheez menu options remain, including chicken and beef shawarmas, hand-rolled spinach pies, kibbes and grape leaves, manakeesh, a Mediterranean-style flatbread, mini pizzas, Nutella crepes, and the option to build your own bowl. No one, and I mean NO ONE, seems to know what this shop with a great window but not much more (e.g. it’s never open) is all about. Do you? It’s on the east side of Connecticut Ave north of the circle between R and S. Any ideas?”

“There’s a new business there that is either DC’s newest and most secret speakeasy, or DC’s weirdest retail experiment. It purports to be “Capital Microscope Supply Company”, but how many microscopes do you have to sell to walk-ins to pay rent on the 1700 block of Connecticut?? Even better, they have rotating teaser signs posted on the door – this week it’s “Summer Hours now in effect”.

This has got to be some kind of bar or secret restaurant.”
