Do you know what’s going on with the weird influx of free McVitties digestive biscuits near the metro in Columbia Heights? I was given a free sleeve last Tuesday on my way to work. Since then, they seem to have expanded to giving out free six-pack boxes every day to anyone who will take them. They are all over 14th street!” (more…)



11th and Lamont Street, NW

“Dear Popville,

A few weeks ago, it was encouraging to see the western sidewalks of 11th St NW btw Lamont and the infamous $2M+ dog park covered w a construction walkway for pedestrians. In going past today, though, I noticed that walkway was taken down and no construction done to the former Chinese restaurant and laundromat. Upon closer inspection, there’s a stop work order for an unsafe worksite, but also a permit for a 14-unit mixed residential retail building after razing the existing structure(more…)



14th Street between Irving and Park Road, NW

“Dear PoPville,

On DC USA’s operator’s site, it shows a picture of a “proposed storefront redesign”, which seems designed to cater to a more upscale set of retailers, such as those selling… penny farthing bicycles. [Ed. Note: See far right hand side of rendering above.]

It looks like it’s dated from December 2018, Do you know anything about this?

Since this has been up, DC USA has lost two more tenants (Panera and Payless), and has over ten vacancies on the first floor. (more…)

This isn’t the first time the President visited The Coupe in Columbia Heights and hopefully won’t be the last.

I witnessed a violent shouting match at 6:30 am, followed by the usual group of men drinking in front of the former Heights taproom, and ending with a heinous comment before I arrived at the Metro. And that was just my walk to work.
