Matt Singerman reports:

“Target I got hit with a bunch of fraudulent charges totaling close to $1200 after shopping at your store at 3100 14th St NW in DC. You may want to check your self-checkout machines!

PoPville beware credit card skimmers at Target!”

“Dear PoPville,

Our sweet (and diabetic) yellow lab had a severe and unexpected seizure in Meridian Hill Park. It was so sad and panicky for me and I felt absolutely helpless. A few fellow dog owners stepped in with incredible kindness and generosity. Specifically, a huge thank you to the woman who gave us her dog’s food after we went through the extra treats I had brought and ran across the street to get more treats to help bring her out of her shock, and to the woman who called us an Uber from her account. I don’t know what I would have done without you.

We’re at the vet’s now and she’s stabilizing, largely due to the kindness of others. We’d love to reimburse the Uber cost and to say thanks (extra treats for their dogs that lost some of their playtime)! Can you help us get in touch?

Please email [email protected] and I’ll put you in touch with OP.

Spring is finally here so let’s have a happy hour to celebrate!! This one will be at the new Bicycle themed spot, Bar Roubaix, in Columbia Heights. We’ll have select $4 beers and specialty cocktail!! For my patrons who get t-shirt rewards, the new ones are in and you’ll be able to pick them up here Thursday April 5th!! I’ll be emailing ya via Patreon so you can let me know what size you’d like. Have a great weekend and happy Passover and Easter to those who observe.

Thanks to Judy for sending more info about Jeanne D’Arc’s sword restoration.

“A+E was filming. NPS reps said History Channel funded the restoration as part of the filming of a program for Women’s History Month. The plan is to air it before the end of March. History Channel has also funded a guard for the weekend to make sure she is protected for some kind of program scheduled in the park, at the statue, for Monday at 4.

Here’s the link where the program should appear if you don’t catch the initial broadcast.”

“Dear PoPville,

Yesterday, upon attempting to pay my Chase credit card bill, I found that there were almost $1500 in charges on my card that I didn’t recognize: three square charges (two $500 charges and one $100 charge) to someone (or some company) called Kasiya Omotosho, an “in-person transaction” labeled “Bronx, NY” for another $100, and a $75 charge to a website called kuuya.com. Chase has since cancelled my card and they’re shipping me a new one, but I’ve only used the card twice in the last week: one was at my place of employment (where I swiped the card myself) and one of those times was this past Sunday at the Giant in Columbia Heights, similar to a story you published about a year ago. [Ed. Note: That incident was at the H Street, NE Giant.] Same as that story, I used cashier checkout and the card had a chip.

I contacted store customer service for the Columbia Heights Giant and they said they weren’t aware of any issues. Has anyone else had these issues recently? Thanks for your help!”

Thanks to Amanda for sending:

“A few weeks ago you posted about the Hilltop on Sherman Avenue becoming Napoli Pasta Bar. This week, I noticed that they were open so I tried it out. I was really impressed! The owner previously worked at Café Milano and Lupo Verde and you can tell that he knows his pasta! The pasta, charcuterie and cocktails were delicious and the staff was friendly without being pushy or intrusive. I never went to the Hilltop so I don’t know how many changes were made, but the inside is beautifully decorated. There is a table made out of a Vespa scooter with a working headlight, which is pretty sweet. The waiter said that they have a happy hour discount on their beer and wine. Oh, and there is free bread and olive oil! I am a longtime resident of Sherman Avenue and I am excited (and a little surprised) to see a restaurant like this pop up on our street, so bring your friends, bring your kids and check it out!”

More photos and a message from the owner after the jump. (more…)
