For non tribe members – a mikva is also “a bath used for the purpose of ritual immersion in Judaism”. So I was dying to know what the challenge was about…

Turns out it’s another type of immersion – from Mikva Challenge DC:

“Modeled after the successful civic engagement programming developed for youth in Chicago, Mikva Challenge DC provides opportunities for young people in DC to engage in action civics and community problem solving, and seeks to increase youth voice in local decision making processes.”

Very, very cool indeed!!

Japanese Restaurant, Bantam King?, coming to old Burger King near the Verizon Center

The liquor license placard says:

“New Restaurant. Japanese cuisine with an assortment of side dishes. Total Occupancy Load of 70.”

This is the old Burger King, and briefly Bicycle space spot between the Building Museum and the Verizon Center. Over the Summer the Post reported that it comes from the owners of Daikaya who “intend to open Bantam King, which will specialize in chicken ramen and Japanese fried chicken.” Ed. Note: I really hope they keep the name Bantam King. Last week we noted the folks from Daikaya were also opening another restaurant in Shaw. Godspeed on both spots!

“Just an FYI. Lime Fresh in Chinatown closed. I think the last day was Nov. 6.”

Lime Fresh opened in Chinatown back in August 2013. They abruptly closed their Columbia Heights location back in December of 2013. That location is now home to Chick Fil A. Chick Fil A coming soon to Chinatown…?
