A reader reports around 7:45am:

“Apparent hit and run at 12th & Constitution- I just saw a man on a bike apparently get hit by a car that then drove away without stopping. (I say “apparently” because I did not actually see the crash – I was stopped at the light coming off the 12th St Expressway and happened to be looking down at the second of the impact – but I heard the collision and saw the guy fall and the car speed away.) Ed. Note: My boy, Barred in DC, tipped me to this on Friday and was pretty much spot on. Here are all the details from a press release:

“We are pleased to announce that critically acclaimed Chef Kevin Tien will be opening a new restaurant, Emilie’s, in the heart of Capitol Hill. The 3,313 square-foot restaurant will be located at Penn Eleven, the redevelopment of the former Frager’s Hardware store, and is slated to open spring 2019.

“Two years ago, we opened Himitsu,” remarked Tien. “Taking my passion for Japanese cuisine, but pushing the envelope and getting our guests out of their comfort zones was exciting. I’m looking forward to writing the next chapter and sharing my passion with the community on a larger scale and a different service style.”

Emilie’s daily-changing menu will focus on seasonally inspired and local ingredients and will include large plates and a small a la carte menu. (more…)

From MPD:

“On September 3rd, at approximately 1:20 p.m., Officers from the First District responded to the 300 block of 13th St SE for a report of a robbery. Officers spoke with an adult female victim who stated that a male suspect ran by her as she was unloading groceries from her vehicle. As the suspect ran by, he pulled her purse from her shoulder and continued running. A witness observed the robbery and chased the suspect for a short distance. The suspect eventually dropped the victim’s property, but was able to flee the area. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 16-18 years old, wearing a gray t-shirt and blue jeans. Fortunately, the victim was not injured during the incident and her property was returned.

The case is currently being investigated by the First District Detective’s Office. If you have any information that may be of assistance, please contact the 1DDU at (202)299-2025, or the Metropolitan Police Department’s Command Information Center at (202)727-9099.”

601 2nd Street, NE at F Street

“Dear PoPville,

Have you heard anything about Toscana (2nd and F NE, by Union Station) closing? I walked by around 530pm yesterday and there was a sheet over the front door, most of the bench tables outside were gone, and all the tables in the covered porch were stacked. They’re clearly closed today, but maybe just on vacation or renovating? There wasn’t any note to indicate. Would love to know if you’ve heard anything, I don’t want to lose their happy hour!!”

Eater DC reported they closed August 3rd and that: ” It’s expected to undergo a complete renovation — complete with a full bar — and reopen this fall under new ownership.”

STAY TUNED.
