38th Annual Adams Morgan Day is Sunday!

“38th ANNUAL ADAMS MORGAN DAY– the longest continuously running neighborhood festival in the nation’s capital — once again invites residents, neighbors and friends to experience our renowned eclectic culture, businesses and lively artistic beat this Sunday, September 11, from noon to 6 p.m., centered at 18th Street NW and Columbia Road NW, and at participating Adams Morgan businesses. Bands play all day at SunTrust Plaza; artists will vend on the corner plazas and in front of businesses; and games take place in Unity Park. A pre-arranged basketball tournament will be held simultaneously at Kalorama Park. 18th Street will remain open and visitors will enjoy specials at the many international and local sourced participating restaurants of Adams Morgan. “Villa Tuscana – fine Italian cuisine” is coming “soon” to (at least half) of the old Chief Ike’s space. at least according to the banner that’s up today.”

Back in December we reported a liquor license had been posted for Villa Tuscana:

“New Italian restaurant. Total Occupancy Load: 123. Inside seating for 99 patrons. Sidewalk Café seating 24 patrons. Entertainment Endorsement.”

Sounds like they’re getting – updates when we have an exact opening date.

We judged them back in 2009 to less than stellar reviews but with the new hotel and restaurant coming nearby this could be a pretty prime spot – updates when we learn more.

Case of the Missing Fire Truck Playground Station Has Been Solved!!!

“The Department of General Services’ (DGS) Contract Services Unit responded to community requests to repair the broken equipment. It had been reported to DGS that children were being injured due to a broken plank on the fire truck. After evaluating the equipment, it was determined that the fire truck could not be repaired. In effort to err on the side of safety, the fire truck was disposed of by DGS to ensure there would be no further injury to children.

The decision to remove and dispose of the fire truck to protect children should have been communicated to community members who purchased the apparatus and to the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR).

DGS regrets both the lack of communication to the community – specifically to those who worked together to purchase the fire truck – and DPR of the removal and disposal of the play equipment.

DGS apologizes for the communication oversight and will replace the equipment with a new fire truck in the next six to eight weeks.”

As of last week, the Adams Morgan dive, which replaced Pharmacy Bar in 2015, is offering a tasty selection of your favorite fried bar snacks late into the night, every night.
Satisfy your cravings with cheese smothered tater tots, mac n’ cheese wedges, fries, chicken wings, popcorn chicken and fried pickles. Healthy it is not, but cheap it certainly is, with fries for $3 on happy hour ($4 regular price), and tots, wings, and pickles following suit. What’s more, the High Dive will be serving these fried favorites through last call every night. Liz Cox, the High Dive’s new co-owner, explained the bar will be one of the only spots in the neighborhood to get a decent late night snack. (more…)
