“The Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum will require free timed-entry passes for visiting the renovated and newly opened west wing of its building in Washington, D.C. The free passes will be available online starting Wednesday, Sept. 14. The museum will reopen approximately half of the building Friday, Oct. 14, which will include eight new and renovated exhibitions, the planetarium, museum store and Mars Café.

An individual will be able to reserve up to six passes per day for a specific entry time. Each visitor must have a pass, regardless of age. To enter the museums, visitors can show their digital timed-entry pass on their mobile device or a copy of their time-entry pass printed at home. The link to reserve tickets will go live Sept. 14 at noon ET and can be accessed from the museum’s website.

Lost Sock Roasters, recently named Washington, DC’s Best Coffee by Food & Wine, will open a new pop-up cafe this fall inside the Phillips Collection. The cafe will be open to the Museum’s guest’s as well as the general public without an entrance fee, open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:30am to 5:00pm. The Phillips Collection is located just off of Dupont Circle at 1600 21st St NW, Washington, DC. The team will soon share a grand opening date targeted for late August – mid September. (more…)

“The Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum will reopen half of its flagship building on the National Mall Friday, Oct. 14. Eight new and renovated exhibitions, the planetarium, museum store and Mars Café will open on the building’s west end. The museum has been undergoing a seven-year renovation that began in 2018 and includes redesigning all 23 exhibitions and presentation spaces, complete refacing of the exterior cladding, replacement of outdated mechanical systems and other repairs and improvements.

Only half of the building will be opening, and great interest in visiting is expected. Free timed-entry passes will be required to ensure visitors have an enjoyable experience. The passes will be available on the museum’s website Sept. 14.

“This is one of the most exciting times in the National Air and Space Museum’s history,” said Chris Browne, the John and Adrienne Mars Director of the museum. “When we open the first reimagined galleries, we hope all visitors are inspired by artifacts on display for the first time, favorite icons of aerospace presented in new ways and diverse storytelling.”

I wanted to ask everyone what their experience has been getting tickets for the Kusama exhibit at the Hirshhorn? When it was there a few years ago, it was the hottest ticket in town. Now the museum is only releasing same day tickets in person the morning of. I was wondering how good a chance I have getting tickets now?”

“We’ve just decided to start offering limited day-of passes for Jazz in the Garden. We heard feedback about offering up another opportunity to register since the Friday before the concert release fills up so quickly [That registration still opens at noon one week before each concert]. The new day-of passes will go live every Friday 10am for that day’s concert.

More information on each performance is available at nga.gov/jazz.”

The Museum’s new cafe will offer their signature croissants, Kouign Amann, quiches and other delectable treats as well as coffee and a variety of beverages.
