“Wonder Woman filming – Pennsylvania Ave NW – all weekend

Just got a notice from my workplace on 9th St NW (at the corner of Pennsylvania Ave NW) saying our parking garage is closed all weekend for filming of the “Magic Hour” which I learned from PoPville is the new Wonder Woman film. VERY exciting.

Here’s the full info pasted below on street closures — note that “across from 801 Pennsylvania Ave NW” is basically across from the Navy Memorial, which began construction in 1985 and was unveiled in 1987, so if the rumor that the film takes place in 1984 is true, then they won’t be showing the Memorial itself in the film if they are being historically accurate.

“I was walking down Wisconsin Avenue earlier, and it looks like they’re making a storefront for Commander Salamander in Georgetown. I know that Wonder Woman is filming in this area, so it probably is for the movie.”

Commander Salamander was located at 1420 Wisconsin Ave, NW and is now an M&T Bank.

“Dear PoPville,

Thought you might like this – we got this notice about a movie filming in the next couple weeks on Wisconsin Ave.

Street Closures (PDF)

Magichour (notice awesome logo) is actually Wonder Woman 2, according to the Google.”

Side Note: My sources on the street tell me that Chris Pine and Kristen Wiig were spotted at Chaia (3207 Grace Street, NW.) No Gal Gadot sightings yet.

“Dear PoPville,

To everyone who got MoviePass and was sad that it didn’t work for all the awesome Landmark Theatres in the DC area, rejoice! You can now go to any of the Landmark theatres using MoviePass. That means E St, Atlantic Plumbing, West End, etc. Now if only I could go back in time a week and stop myself from paying non-MoviePass money to see Isle of Dogs…”

Outdoor movies will be shown at sunset every Friday beginning on June 1 and running through the first week of August. This is the sixth season of the Golden Triangle’s free movie series, which each year attracts thousands of movie fans to enjoy some of their favorite films under the stars. Pursuant to National Park Service regulations, all movies shown in the series are rated G, PG, or PG-13.

“Golden Cinema is a phenomenal event that brings families, friends and co-workers together for a relaxing evening or a date night, to watch movie favorites under the stars and in the iconic setting of Farragut Square,” said Leona Agouridis, Golden Triangle BID Executive Director. “It’s a great way to unwind at the end of a long work week and we are always thrilled to welcome hundreds of movie fans to enjoy these special evenings with us.”

“Dear PoPville,

I work full time producing videos and taking photographs for non-profit organizations in DC. Recently, I went a little outside my comfort zone and created a short film for an international contest. The short was supposed to be about your city, and what better city to focus on then DC. My concept was for a couple to take a trip down memory lane and retake images of themselves in their favorite DC spots.

It has always been a dream of mine to be a filmmaker and I am trying my best to show my 20 month old daughter that anything is possible. So, after a few late nights, and some mornings with my baby eating cheerios on my lap while I edited, I finished my short film and I couldn’t be happier with it. Luckily it was selected as one of the 9 finalists!

The final winner will be decided via a public vote on YouTube. For every like I get on my YouTube video I get one vote. I was hoping you could take a moment and help me achieve this crazy dream of mine. I am up against some stiff competition, including a few California crews who were able to use actual Hollywood actors. In my opinion my local DC cast and crew beat them by a mile, but I could still use a little help getting the word out there.

Please vote for my video here.

Here is also some info on the contest itself.”

“Remember this? Landmark Theatres no longer coming here per NoMa BID rep at ANC6C Parks & Events Committee mtg last night.”

Update from NoMa BID:

“To clarify: We don’t have confirmed information as to the theater’s status, either way. The comment at last night’s mtg was speculative & made in the context of a discussion about where @NoMaParksDC’s NoMa Meander (http://nomaparks.org/noma-meander ) crosses Patterson & goes north.”
