Sherry’s Liquor Store Moving Around the Corner in Woodley Park

According to a recent liquor license application, Sherry’s will be moving around the corner from 2315 Calvert Street NW to 2627 Connecticut Ave, NW. This will be the second move that I can remember. They used to be located at the across the street at the corner of Connecticut and Calvert, which is the current location of Chipotle.

And in purely scuttlebutt news: I hear that this move make room for an expanded CVS which is currently located next to McDonald’s on Connecticut Ave. I’ll be sure to update if that move takes place. In the meantime the Woodley Park shuffle continues…

Little India becomes Pasta Italiana Organic Italian Restaurant in Woodley Park

“Dear PoP,

Little India in Woodley park is now an organic italian restaurant. is it run by the same people? seems like it switched overnight.”

Yeah, I happened to snap some photos but just assumed is was run by new people. Looks like there’s been a bit of restaurant juggling going on in Woodley Park. Hot N Juicy Crawfish is coming into the old Trattoria Italiana space but Cafe Paradiso has been completely renovated and reopened.

Hot N Juicy Crawfish Coming to Woodley Park

Thanks to an alert reader for sending the word (and pic above) about Woodley Park’s newest restaurant. Hot N Juicy Crawfish currently has a Las Vegas location and was featured on Man V. Food.

This looks like it could be the greatest addition to Woodley Park since the Marilyn Monroe mural went up.

You can see their menu here.

They will be located in the old Trattoria Italiana space located at 2651 Connecticut Ave, NW. Which is right next door to Cafe Paradiso undergoing a major renovation of its own (see below).

Cafe Paradiso is located at 2649 Connecticut Ave, NW in Woodley Park. I happened to notice that they are getting a pretty big renovation (they’ll be closed for the next 2 weeks) but wanted to check in with people if they’re were any fans. You can see their menus here. A License to Print Money?

Fro Zen Yo continues to it’s take over of the DC frozen yogurt scene… A couple of weeks ago we learned that Fro Zen Yo will also be opening up a spot at 1636 I St, NW. Though, I suspect this new location, slated to open at 3000 Connecticut Ave, NW, located directly across the street from the zoo, is going to make approximately a zillion dollars when the weather warms up again. Well done, Fro Zen Yo, nicely played!

The 5pm Post – 1st Annual Wardman Park Indoor Mini-Golf Classic Benefiting Children’s Miracle Network

WHAT: Washington Marriott Wardman Park invites all mini-golfers to the 1st Annual Wardman Park Indoor Mini-Golf Classic. The 18 hole mini-golf course will be throughout the large hotel and will have hazards, such as registration desks, presidential suites, escalators and outdoor pool. The 1st annual Wardman Park Indoor Mini-Golf Classic to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network, an international non-profit organization that raises funds for children’s hospitals. Mini-golf participants will raise money for Washington’s Children’s National Medical Center, one of the 170 Children’s Miracle Network hospitals that treat 17 million children each year. Awards for will be handed out for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners as well as the Tackiest Golf Outfit. Tee times for foursomes are still available at $200 or $50 per golfer. Double Standard in Woodley Park?

I’ll admit that I haven’t been following the controversy over 2910 Garfield St. NW too closely. Basically one house was demolished, some “100-year-old oak and red cedar trees” were cut down and the developer plans on building two “5,000-square-foot homes on the site”. I’m saddened by the fact that the old trees were cut down but when I was walking by I couldn’t help but notice what seemed to be a bit of a double standard. Across their street there are a number of rowhouses with signs that say “No Subdivision, No McMansions”. I’m not saying these homes are McMansions but I imagine they are on a plot that was most definitely subdivided. See photo below:
