Tickets are on sale now for the Smithsonian’s National Zoo’s 12th annual Brew at the Zoo. The event will be held on Thursday, July 21, from 6 to 9 p.m. Hosted by Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ), Brew at the Zoo will feature nearly 100 craft and microbreweries. Local favorites such as Port City Brewing Company and Atlas Brew Works will be joined by popular craft microbreweries including DC Brau Brewing Company, Flying Dog Brewery, and BadWolf Brewing Company.
In addition to sampling great hops, guests will be able to purchase food from local favorites like Ledo’s Pizza, and popular food trucks including Rocklands, Big Cheese, and Red Hook Lobster Pound. Guests will be able to mingle with new and old friends while playing lawn games and enjoying live music by The Reagan Years. (more…)

“Wylie Wagg in Woodley Park is gone. Didn’t seem to last long. They have a sign encouraging customers to visit their location at Idaho And Newark NW.
I know this strip is getting a Nandos and a barbershop soon, but this is another vacant retail space on this strip. The old Pasta Italiana restaurant is still empty (right next to the now vacant Wagg), as is the old Noodles & Company.”

When we spoke about Nando’s new menu last week, lots of folks were asking about the status of the planned Woodley Park location. Previously they had told us they were hoping for a summer opening. I was skeptical at first but things seem to finally be progressing including a posting of the liquor license application:
“New Restaurant. Sidewalk Café with 45 seats. Total Occupancy Load of 192.”
Updates as construction progresses and an exact opening date is announced.
This rental is located at 3100 Connecticut Avenue, Northwest. The listing says:

“Woodley Park metro elevator, 9:15 am, x2 (two days in a row). Noticed you yesterday and I think we shared a smile (to me, it was about how awkward people are in full elevators–you?). Did a double take at my luck today when you were there again. I wasn’t sure it was you at first, since your purple gingham shirt stood out yesterday, but think I caught you doing a double take too. Today, we both just made the train and ended up in the same car, standing by the doors. I debated striking up a conversation, but instead avoided eye contact and didn’t gather the nerve before I had to get off at Dupont.”

Neighborhood resident, Michael Drohan, reports on last night’s meeting:
“I checked out the Woodley Park Community Association’s meeting tonight, where JBG shared their long term plans for the redevelopment of the Wardman Park site. Overall, a very informative presentation I thought, and JBG has some ambitious plans that, for the most part, seemed to be cautiously welcomed by the community. I.e. no one is mourning the loss of the eyesore Marriott, but of course concerned what the influx of housing for 6000 new neighborhood residents (roughly doubling the size of Woodley Park) means to things like parking availability and schools.
