“New heights is not closing permanently. They covered the bottom floor to hide the liquor while closed but plan to reopen in October. Unsure why the phone is disconnected. Spoke directly with the owner.”

Joanna reports: “Will miss their incredible gin selection!”

Unfortunately New Heights Restaurant’s phone has been disconnected. New Heights opened in 1986. Their website says:

“New Heights is a perennial, classy sight to behold anytime of year ….. especially in springtime when the lovely lines, colors and wood tones of the Gin Joint fold outside into the intimate, Patio-on-Calvert with its verdant, colorful plantings. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

About 2 months ago I was walking in Cleveland Park and I found a miniature polymer clay version of “The Scream” tucked into an empty apartment promotional box. I found it delightful. Cut to ~3wks ago when I was telling this patient about my funny little find and asked “oh, you mean the one in Rock Creek?” And my brain exploded. So far I’ve physically found two but I have confirmation of 2 more around Tregaron and Klingle Valley. (more…)

From Duke’s:

“It’s a very busy week at Duke’s Grocery in Dupont Circle. Today, the gastropub launches a Pappy Van Winkle Charity Auction to raise money for So Others Might Eat (SOME), opens a Spirits Shop and announces plans to grill full Memorial Day Weekend platters on the patio.

For the charity auction, donors can select the Old Rip Van Winkle 10 Year or the Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 Year. 100% of auction proceeds will be donated to SOME. Speaking of bourbon, Duke’s also opens a Spirits Shop, with kits available. For example, the Botanist Gin Martini Pack comes with two Stölzle crystal martini glasses, stainless steel shaker and deluxe stirrer. Limited edition bottles from Blanton’s, Eagle Rare and Weller are also available.

This weekend, a huge smoker takes over the front patio facing 17th Street for a traditional Memorial Day Weekend cookout. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

The Woodley Park Window Masturbator is at it again – this time on Mothers Day.  Remember, someone reported him doing the same thing in March on International Women’s Day.*  On the afternoon of May 10, I was walking north on Connecticut Avenue NW, right before Cathedral Avenue NW, when I heard someone knocking urgently on a window that was close to the sidewalk.  When I looked over, I saw a man inside wave and then he started masturbating at the window.  He had the slatted blinds pulled down so I couldn’t see his face, only his masturbating.  After this happened, I checked PoPville to see if anyone else reported this. “Dear PoPville,

It’s international women’s day today (yesterday) and what a way to celebrate. Walking to work along Connecticut Ave near Cathedral this (Sunday) afternoon a man was masturbating in an open window of his apartment. He even knocked on the window to get the attention of passers by. Of course I found it disgusting. So did the three women who were walking ahead of me. As I live in the area I pass this apartment pretty much daily. I called the police on this creep. I’m surprised they haven’t contacted me about it so far.”
