It was very upsetting to see this sign last month. Even more upsetting is scammers trying to take advantage of our emotions.
On Saturday the Florida Avenue Grill warned:
“Beware there are multiple unauthorized people purportedly raising money to “save” @floridaavegrill here on IG and elsewhere. None of these solicitations are authorized. They are done without our knowledge or consent. Nor have any funds donated been given to the Grill… The Grill is not going out of business. (more…)

Thanks to Douglas for the reminder about the much loved Restaurant Judy:
Supporting local means finding your local pupusa joint and ordering many of these bad boys.
These from Judy Restaurant over on 14th St, just off of Florida Ave. pic.twitter.com/69KB4LLUtp

Thanks to Stephanie for sending: “In 2016 we dug out the basement of our row home in the U Street neighborhood. The basement was unfinished but did have a cement slab that was relatively new. The contractor broke up the slab and to dig down three feet. During this process, this jar was found under the slab, somehow in one piece! The markings on the bottom indicate that it was made in West Virginia in 1939.” (more…)

“Not nearly as cool as that rolling rock bottle, but I found these two tiny bottles in the dirt in my backyard. No idea what they might have been used for, or what their vintage is. My house is an 1870-ish rowhouse, the first building built on its block near Garrison Elementary.
I cleaned ’em up as well as I could and they’ve been holding these roses for years now.”
Ed. Note: Old perfume bottles?
