From the Mayor’s Office:

“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced funding for the much-anticipated MetroExtra Limited Stop bus route on the 14th Street corridor.

“As the District continues to grow, so must our public transportation options,” said Mayor Bowser. “Moreover, our Administration is committed to inclusive prosperity so that residents in every corner of the District benefit from our growth. The new Route 59 is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance service and give residents more options to get to work, school and beyond.”

The new 59 route will serve the area between the Takoma Metrorail station and the Federal Triangle Metrorail station. The limited-stop bus service will operate in addition to the existing 52, 53, and 54 bus services. The route will initially operate every 15 minutes during weekday rush hours. The estimated operating cost is approximately $1.2 million annually. If approved in the budget, the funds will be in place in October 2017, allowing the 59 to begin service when the next Metrobus service adjustments occur in December 2017. (more…)

From a press release:

“Funk Parade organizers announced details for this year’s Funk Parade occurring on Saturday, May 6, 2017, as well as its annual crowdfunding campaign. This year’s theme is Future Funk, to celebrate the installation of Parliament’s Mothership at the Smithsonian, the Afrofuturism movement, and the emergence of promising talents in DC’s music scene.

“We’re at a decision point in this city, we get to decide what we want to be,” said Funk Parade co-founder Justin Rood. “What’s the future we can make together? What can we build with love? What’s it going to look like? That’s what we’re exploring this year.”

With its crowdfunding campaign, Funk Parade needs to raise $15,000 from community members and local businesses.  The link to give is: here.

As one of the city’s biggest community-based cultural events, organized by the community, this campaign is crucial to the its bottom line. You don’t need a ticket to come to the parade, the day fair or the music festival. If you want to support this event, this is how you do it. Perks for giving include T-shirts, infant onesies, stickers, buttons, posters and more. It runs for three weeks.

From a press release:

“Starting March 22nd, a Wednesday evening stroll past 14th and U’s Quarter+Glory, will likely result in head nodding or even a snapping of the fingers. The cocktail bar with a mid-century swagger is adding another element essential to quintessential American cocktail bars; jazz. Entitled: ‘The Savoy Jazz Nights’ every Wednesday evening, sounds of horns and drums will fill the air at Quarter+Glory. In true fashion, the weekly jazz nights carry a literary theme, very much like the bar itself. The themed evening borrows its name from The Savoy Cocktail Book, authored by American bartender Harry Craddock, widely considered to be the best bartender of the prohibition era. The Savoy Cocktail Book was published by London’s renown hotel: The Savoy in 1930, Craddock’s employer at the time, and included 750 recipes. (more…)

It’s either a dope mural or a film projection outside the roof deck pool – either way – very cool. And damn this is a crazy transformation from Portner Place.
