Triple Shooting on U Street; Shooting in Brentwood

From MPD just after 3am:

“The Third District is currently investigating a shooting in the 1300 block of U Street NW. Three (3) adults are currently being treated at area hospitals for non life-threatening injuries. .

Motorists and pedestrians can expect road closures in the area as we investigate.

“The Fifth District is working a shooting in the 2500 block 14th Street NE. After MPD officers heard several shots being fired they immediately responded to the location where they located a victim with an injury to her ear. Unknown if she was struck by an bullet fragment or injured it when she was dove on the ground. Witnesses said a vehicle came by at a high rate of speed while firing rounds out at people on the sidewalk. Look out for a dark gray vehicle with tinted windows. Satellite Room Changing Menu to Feature Pizza and Wings; dropping “diner” concept

“Dear PoPville,

I recently learned that Satellite Room is changing their menu (and seemingly their entire “diner” concept) to feature pizza (apparently it will soon be just pizza, wings, and shakes). Allegedly the switch will happen in the next few weeks.”

Ed. Note: I spoke with one of the owners who confirmed they were dropping the diner concept and switching up to focus mainly on pizza (including by the slice and a gluten free option) and wings (as early as today or tomorrow.) He also said the beer program would be expanded significantly with 20 beers now on tap (from Atlas to 3 Stars, to Flying Dog to Modelo to Right Proper to Evo to Bell’s to Ballast Point to DC Brau, ANXO and PBR of course (and more). Bye bye burgers and tots but boozy milkshakes (and salads) shall remain thank the Gods.

Also of note, there will be DJ’s playing on weekends and a boatload of tv’s have been added.

As the world turns…. Satellite Room opened up back in 2012 behind the 9:30 club.

“Ice Cream Jubilee is celebrating completing 1 year of being open on 14th Street with a month of collaborations with local “Made in DC” businesses.

On our anniversary day, Monday, October 2, Ice Cream Jubilee will give out free Thunder Beast root beer floats or District Doughnut ice cream sandwiches to the first 50 customers starting at 6pm. For those who cannot wait until Monday, the floats and sandwiches will be available starting on Saturday, September 30. The floats and ice cream sandwiches will only be available at the 1407 T Street location.*

Each ice cream float features 12oz of Thunder Beast root beer and a 4oz scoop of Ice Cream Jubilee ice cream. Customers can choose the recommended pairings of Bold Vanilla or Salted Caramel – or opt to have any other flavor for a unique combination.

Each ice cream sandwich features a District Doughnut vanilla glaze doughnut, crafted in Barracks Row, sliced in half with a 4oz scoop of Ice Cream Jubilee’s birthday cake ice cream, made especially for the celebration with extra rainbow sprinkles. (more…)

Ancient Rivers Middle Eastern Restaurant from owner of Busboys and Poets replacing Mulebone on Tuesday

On Monday we broke the news that a new Middle Eastern restaurant was coming to replace Mulebone at 14th and V St, NW. Some more details from the owner:

“Ancient Rivers is a middle eastern restaurant with foods from North Africa, Iraq, Lebanon.
We have juicing machines to make fresh in house juices and cocktails as well as teas from Iraq, Egypt and Morocco. It is taking the place of Mulebone at 2121 14th Street NW (across from Busboys.) We are opening on Tuesday September 26 at 5PM (50% off the entire check on that first day!)“
