“Dear PoPville,

There’s an little known DC Code section that allows community groups to file lawsuits against properties that are being used to sell, store or manufacture illegal drugs; that are being used to unlawfully store or sell guns; or that are being used to facilitate prostitution.

Some residents in Truxton Circle have a pretty dire and threatening situation going on with a tenant on a block and we’re considering all options. Over the past 24 months, the residents and/or guests of this household have dealt drugs, brandished firearms, threatened other residents, destroyed property, spray-painted security cameras, and generally created an unlivable situation in the immediate area of the property. Thanks to all who passed on from Republic Kolache:

“Some bittersweet news today folks: after 5 very gratifying years, Republic Kolache will be closing up shop early next month.

From the first popups at American Ice in Aug 2015, to a wholesale business that placed kolaches on the shelves of Whole Foods & many local coffee shops, to the opening of our sister brick & mortar Republic Cantina — we’ve truly had a good run.

The rationale here is what you’d probably guess: the pandemic has caused a massive drop in our sales (namely on the wholesale side, which represented ~90% of our production). With many of our cafe & grocery customers closed, continuing operations is unfortunately just no longer sustainable. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Will my insurance go up after a bullet hits my car? A stray bullet went through the side of my car parked on the unit block of O Street, NW last night. I did not notice my car was hit until I saw police asked me about it. I’m worried about my rates going up if I file a claim. What’s the best course of action?” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I recently got into a car crash on New Jersey Avenue and O Street, NW around 8:45 pm on Sunday 10/11/20. It was a hit and run so I’m trying to find the car / driver that messed my car up. All we know is that it was a red Mercedes sedan and it should have scratches running up the driver side of it. Anyone with information can text me at (443)-878-0214 or email me at [email protected].”
