“Dear PoPville,

There are few streets that escape the wrath of DC Parking enforcement. The odd numbered side of 9thSt NW by the intersection of 9th & O St was one of them – until this morning [earlier this week]. DC Parking has been installing paid permanent placards from O to the convention center. Knowing the operating model of parking for the city, is there any widespread notice before this happens, or should those parked that didn’t see the signs go up in a matter of hours expect an immediate parking ticket?

“Dear PoPville,

Last week a man from a tent took it upon himself to cut down all the plants in the tree boxes that I maintain in front of my house. (he didn’t like them outside his tent). Two butterfly bushes that were home to hundreds of butterflies. Two rose bushes that I planted 7 years ago. And he even got halfway through THE TREE before I stopped him. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Have you heard anything about the reopening of the recreation facilities on 9th Street (dog park/basketball court/skate park). I have gotten no information from the ANC, the Council 1 Reps or the DC Parks Department. Looks ready to go.”

Another reader writes: “Shaw dog park is still not open despite the city advertising that it was opening the end of august.”

Shaw Dog Park writes: “We are working to remain in touch with @DCDPR and will share opening details when we have them.”

From a press release:

“On September 18, a team of D.C.-area industry veterans, Louie Hankins, Giovanni Ippolito, and Salvio Ippolito, is welcoming Washington to the grand opening of Quattro Osteria, their unique Italian experience located in the heart of Shaw at 600 Florida Avenue NW. Guests will be swept away to Italy when they step into the transformed space, formerly home to Bistro Bohem, which was renovated and designed by the team itself. The chef, who hails from Naples, Italy and has time in the kitchen of one- and two-Michelin-starred kitchens in Tuscany under his belt, is turning out a menu of small plates, fresh-made pastas, and composed plates featuring masterly-handled meat and seafood, all with time-honored Italian flavors reimagined through modern techniques. “Dear PoPville,

Management sent my building an email saying a stray bullet hit a window on our ninth floor in Tuesday night’s shooting. The sightline of first photo is based on the bullet trajectory looking towards the barrel of the gun. Trajectory estimated from point of impact in glass and wall behind glass). View is eastward along O St NW, between 9th and 7th.”

7th and P Street, NW

Readers reported: “heard at least 15-20 shots, definitely some from a semi-automatic, from 9th and O around 9:30 PM.”

Just before 6pm a reader passed on a note from their building (1300 block of Kenyon street, nw):

“Please be advised that there was a shooting in the alleyway behind the building. At this time we do not have many details but all footage captured will be forwarded to the police. The police will be conducting an investigation and access to the garage from Kenyon Street has been blocked off. It would be best to use the 1300 block of Irving street to enter the alleyway.

Please continue to use caution as you enter and exit the building.”
