“This message provides an update regarding the streetscape construction activity underway through October 2023 on the exterior of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. This construction includes removal of existing trees, pavers and base material where the new planters will be installed. New trees will be planted during the spring planting season. In the interest of public safety during this process, bicycle racks are cordoning off the work area which includes the curb lane and a portion of the sidewalk, while allowing for pedestrian access.
Construction work on N Street (between 7th and 9th Streets, NW) will conclude by the end of March 2023.
The next phase of the work will begin February 17 through the end of May 2023 on the 1200 block of 9th Street (between M and N Streets, NW). The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has issued a permit to the contractor for temporary occupancy of the bike lane in this area. Bicycle rack barriers will be put in place on February 16.
Construction on this portion of 9th Street will be conducted in two phases: (more…)

Alan Henney reported some disturbing details:
“2 WOMEN SHOT IN UBER — in the area of Georgia Ave and Harvard St NW DC. Two women were shot in the legs while their Uber was taking them between clubs. He drove them directly to the hospital after gunfire came through the Uber.”
