Two People Shot (One Died) around 9:30pm at 14th and V St, NW. Unrelated Earlier shooting (Homicide) around Brightwood/Takoma

Readers reported: “There was a very loud volley of automatic gun fire about 10-15 minutes ago (loud enough to scare my dog) and now there are a ton of cops at 14th and V. Emergency vehicles as well. Lit up like a Christmas tree and visible from my balcony 12th and V.”

Sounded like 20-30 shots.

Update from MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, in the 1400 block of V Street, Northwest.

At approximately 9:28 pm, Third District officers responded to the listed location for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male shooting victim. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment. After all life-saving efforts failed, the adult male victim was pronounced dead. A second victim, an adult female, sought treatment, at a local hospital, for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

The decedent has been identified as 29-year-old Marvin Johnson, Jr., of Northwest, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by sending a text message to 50411.”

“I heard about 5-6 shots at 7:15pm. Apparently someone was shot. The corner of 8th & Underwood St NW is crawling with police, and the helicopter is overhead.”

“confirmed shooting tonight on Piney Branch and Underwood. Three shots fired around 7:55. Helicopter is out flying low and about 8 police cars have blocked off Underwood st between 8th and Piney. Neighbor said he saw a body covered in a sheet.

Gun violence up in Brightwood has really seemed to pick up in the last 6 months. Sucks.”

At approximately 7:53 pm, Fourth District officers responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male shooting victim. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 20-year-old Rasheed Byles, of Southeast, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099.
